Halloween DVDs from NCircle Entertainment

Watching Halloween specials on tv is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit, and they're a great way to celebrate Halloween without all the sugary treats. Here are two DVDs from NCircle Entertainment that your child will enjoy:

Kooky Spooky Halloween
The WordFriends get their share of scares the night before Halloween, when Pig sleep walks and everyone thinks he's a ghost! Then, Sheep is making herself a super special fairy costume to wear for the big Halloween party. But what will she do when her WordFriends need pieces of her costume for their own use?

This DVD has two episodes, A Kooky Spooky Halloween and Sheep's Halloween Costume. My kids love how the WordFriends' bodies spell out their names -- the Halloween pumpkins were especially cute!

Tricks and Treats Synopsis
A new spooky adventure this DVD brings, with The Cat, Nick and Sally, Fish and the Things. Meet the eeriest critters you have ever seen, arrived just in time for this Halloween! There'll be lots of tricks and, of course lots of treats, to share with the animal friends you will meet! There's a coconut crab, spider monkeys and bats, and plenty more fun with The Cat in the Hat!
This DVD contains several mini episodes, including Batty for Bats, Aye Aye! and of course Trick or Treat. I like that kids get to learn a few science facts, and the kids love seeing the Cat getting up to his old tricks.

I like that the DVDs are only 30 minutes each, so I can control the amount of tv the kids watch. They're a lot of fun, at at just $6.99 each, they're super affordable. Kooky Spooky and Tricks and Treats will make a great addition to any DVD collection -- so treat your kids to these fun DVDs and get ready to howl with delight!

Kooky Spooky and Tricks & Treats can be found at local retailers or online, including at www.NcircleEntertainment.com. Other Halloween DVDs from NCircle Entertainment include Archie, Richard Scarry's Huckle the Cat and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Dinosaur Train DVD giveaway

Get ready, Dinosaur Train fans! PBS Kids is airing a new episode on December 6. My kids love watching Buddy the T-Rex and his adopted Pteranodon family go on adventures and learn about natural history and natural science, and they love the paleontologist who appears at the end of every episode and compares the dinosaurs they saw in the program to modern-day animals.

Here's a press release with more information about the new episode and about the Dinosaur Train series:

THE JIM HENSON COMPANY PREMIERES A NEW EPISODE OF THE AWARD-WINNING DINOSAUR TRAIN™ SERIES ON PBS KIDS® IN DECEMBER

HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 29, 2010) –An all new episode of the hit CG-animated preschool series, DINOSAUR TRAIN™, is scheduled to premiere December 6 on PBS KIDS®, where the series ranks in the top 5 children’s programs among kids ages 2 to 5.*

In “Big Stomping Dinosaur Feet;” “Hornucopia,” Daphne, a Daspletosaurus shows Buddy how to make stomping a fun dance instead of a temper tantrum. At the Big Pond, Tank introduces the Pteranodon family to his friend, Stacie Styracosaurus, a fellow Ceratopsian with a crown of elaborate horns on her head.

Encore presentations of “Dinosaurs in the Snow;” “Cretaceous Conifers” will broadcast on December 8, 12, 20, and 24 (check local listings). The episode is also one of eight fun and educational adventures available on the DINOSAURS IN THE SNOW DVD from PBS KIDS and Paramount Home Entertainment, in which Buddy travels to the North Pole, explores nocturnal animals, becomes a detective, celebrates his birthday and more! The DVD also features an interactive game, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide and parent information. SRP: $14.99.

In DINOSAUR TRAIN, young viewers join Buddy and his adoptive family of Pteranodons on whimsical adventures through prehistoric jungles, swamps, volcanoes and oceans as they unearth basic concepts in natural science, natural history and paleontology. The Dinosaur Train is a colorful locomotive, customized to accommodate all kinds of dinosaurs, and it has the ability to visit the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous worlds, while the Train’s Conductor, a knowledgeable Troodon, provides passengers with fascinating facts along the way.

DINOSAUR TRAIN is a Parents’ Choice Recommended TV series, and the DINOSAUR TRAIN website received a Parents’ Choice Silver Award and was the recipient of a prestigious 2010 Prix Jeunesse Award.

Wubbzy Goes to School DVD review and giveaway

My kids' school starts next week and we're deep into preparations -- making sure they have shoes, clothes, backpacks and all that. But I'm making sure they're prepared mentally as well; getting them used to waking up early and getting ready quickly, talking to them about meeting new teachers and making new friends.

I was recently invited to preview the new DVD featuring the popular tv series "Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!": Wubbzy Goes to School, which was released on August 3. I thought it would be a great transition from summertime to schooltime -- some tv entertainment that I know my kids enjoy, with a little bit of school preparation thrown in.

The Basics
Here's some information about Wubbzy's new DVD:

Wubbzy, the cute and quirky bendy-tailed character from the hit Emmy® Award-winning Nick Jr.® preschool TV series, along with his pals Widget, Walden and Daizy, help preschoolers get ready to learn! learn! learn! with the DVD release of “Wubbzy Goes To School.” The newest collection of engaging episodes will ease children’s anxieties about heading off to school and making new friends – while they embark on wonderfully wacky adventures the Wubbzy way!

Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! “Wubbzy Goes To School” makes the grade at retail nationwide on August 3, 2010.
“Wubbzy Goes To School” (SRP $16.98) puts the “cool” in “school” with six charming episodes that will have everyone ready to hit the books. In “Who Needs School?,” Wubbzy is nervous about going off to school for the very first time and decides he can learn all he needs to know on his own. When things don’t work out as expected and Wubbzy has no one to play with, he realizes that maybe school isn’t so bad after all. In another episode, “New Kid On The Block,” Wubbzy learns that meeting and accepting new friends can be a big! big! big! job. When Murphy, a larger-than-life new student, joins the class, Wubbzy finds that good friends can come in all shapes and sizes.

Additional episodes include: “Gotta Dance,” “Wubbzy the Star,” “You Gotta Have Art” and “Magic Tricks,” starring Wuzzleburg’s own Moo Moo the Magician! Fans will also be “wowed” with cool bonus features such as the “Meet Wubbzy’s Schoolmates” photo gallery, coloring and activity sheets and more.

The Bongga
As Wubbzy would say, WowWowWow! Even though my kids are no longer preschool-age, they still love watching Wubbzy, and this DVD was no exception. It's great to hear them laughing over Widget's clumsy attempts at ballet (and the out-of-control antics of the clever ballet robot she built).

Even better, each episode features real-life situations that kids face when going to school, so when kids talk to parents about their fears and anxieties, parents can help them out by asking them, "What would Wubbzy do? Remember that episode when....."

The Blah
I'm a big proponent of educational kids' shows, and one could argue that Wubbzy doesn't really teach kids shapes, colors, numbers, science, letters. But the episodes do help kids think about social situations and how they should react. In general, I think Wubbzy is a good role model for kids because he's just like them -- he's impulsive and mischievous, but he has a good heart and he does try to do the right thing.

The Bottom Line
Wow! Wow! Wubbzy gets top marks from me because it's clean, lighthearted entertainment that kids can relate to (and enjoy watching, too!).

Win Wubbzy!
One lucky Bonggamom Finds reader will win a Wubbzy prize pack, consisting of the new Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! DVD, Wubbzy goes to School, and a Wow! Wow! Wubbzy book, School Surprise.

"Dinosaur Train Under the Sea" Review and Giveaway

Last September I was introduced to Dinosaur Train, a new series about Buddy the T-rex, his adopted Pteranodon family and their friends. It has been airing on PBS for almost a year now, and my kids still enjoy watching the show -- and even better, enjoy the educational component after the show.

My kids and I are happy to hear that Buddy and his friends will soon be diving under the sea on a special one-hour television special -- Dinosaur Train Under the Sea -- airing August 20 on PBS Kids. We received an advance screen copy of the special, which they really liked. After the show, Dr. Scott introduced us to dinosaurs with such unpronounceable names as Michelinoceras and Pliosaurus. And if you think dinos living under the sea is strange, you're probably just as much of a fossil as I am! Apparently recent reports from Australia show discoveries of some strange, prehistoric-looking life forms hundreds of kilometers below the Great Barrier Reef.

Here's more information about the new TV show and DVD:
On Friday, August 20, PBS KIDS® will premiere Dinosaur Train Under the Sea, a new one-hour television special from the hit CGI-animated preschool series DINOSAUR TRAIN™ from The Jim Henson Company. Children of all ages can join Buddy and the entire Pteranodon family aboard the Dinosaur Train as they embark on their first underwater adventure exploring the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic oceans to learn about new aquatic creatures. The new special episode will premiere on the popular PBS KIDS® preschool destination, an educational, hosted two-hour morning television block. (Please check local listings).

Additionally PBS KIDS and Paramount will release the Dinosaurs Under the Sea on DVD on August 24, which includes eight exciting and whimsical adventures, as well as interactive games, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide and information for parents.

A PSP review by the BonggaKids

Last week I reviewed the PSP , the great portable entertainment device that Sony gave our family to play with this summer. That's all well and good, but this week I wanted you to hear from the real reviewers in my family -- my kids. After all, they're the ones that use the PSP the most!

It would take too long for me to transcribe everything they had to say about the PSP (and even longer to have them type it themselves -- have you seen a 6-year-old try to spell "entertainment"?), so I asked them to do a short vlog on the PSP while they were playing with it on a recent road trip (one of many that we've taken the PSP on this summer). So without further ado, here are 3Po, The Pea, and the PSP:

Disclosure: I am participating in Sony's PSP Summer Family Fun blogger program; I received a "Summer Fun" kit which included a Sony Playstation Portable (PSP-3000) , an assortment of content (games and movies) for the PSP, as well as a journal and videocamera to capture our summer adventures. I have not been paid or required to review the product or give my opinions. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

PSP Summer Family Fun Giveaway

I'm thrilled to have been selected by Sony Corporate Entertainment America to participate in their PSP Summer Family Fun blogger program! They have generously provided my family with a PSP-3000 and some games to load on it so we can try the PSP out and make it a part of our summer. Over the next six weeks I'll be sharing thoughts, photos and videos about how the PSP is helping to fill all the "Are-We-There-Yet" time that's sure to crop up on our summer travels to England and France. It's going to be more of a blog-u-mentary rather than a product review, so I'll be posting over on my personal blog, Finding Bonggamom. Don't worry, I'll be posting a traditional review here on this review blog, so you'll also get to find out what my family likes and doesn't like about the PSP.

To celebrate the launch of this program, Sony has also generously provided a $50 PlayStation giftcard to give away to one lucky Bonggamom Finds reader! One winner will receive a $50 PlayStation Network gift card, good for any purchase on the PlayStation Network -- games, add-on packs, full-length movies, TV shows and more for the PS3 and PSP systems.

There's more prizey fun -- I also happen to have an extra PS3 game to give away! One more lucky Bonggamom Finds reader will win a copy of the "Shrek Forever After" videogame for the PS3 system.

My Gym At Home Review and Giveaway

Did you know that May is National Fitness Month? With obesity levels among kids rising to alarming rates, there's no time like the present to start making good choices for our kids, not only with what they eat but also with what they do. With the days growing longer and the weather getting better, May is the perfect month to take your kids outside to play!

To celebrate, and to participate in the annual National Fitness Month awareness campaign, My Gym Fitness Center is holding a Family Fun & Fitness Day today, May 1, with fun activities, enrollment discounts and special offers at select My Gym locations (go to www.mygym.com to check events and schedules at your local My Gym).

My Gym has also launched a baby and toddler fitness DVD, My Gym At Home, for parents bring some of My Gym's fun programs and exercises home to do with their children at home. I was given a copy of the DVD to review, read below to see what I thought of it:

The Basics

Here's a description of the video from the distributors, Baby First TV:
Hosted by My Gym personality Monique Vranesh, My Gym At Home is a fitness title program aimed at children 3 and under featuring exercises designed to assist in the formation and development of children's motor skills, flexibility and social skills. My Gym's team of children's fitness professionals joined together with BabyFirstTV's educational experts to develop and produce My Gym At Home bringing young families fun My Gym exercises that parents can perform at home together with their babies and toddlers.

The Bongga

This isn't your typical Jane Fonda, leg-scissors exercise video. It's fun! The video is structured a bit like a typical My Gym class, with parents sitting in a circle, helping their kids do movements like arm circles and leg lifts and the like, set to kiddie music. My favorite part is the headstand class -- teacher Monique shows parents how to help their child (the kids in the video looked like they were about 15 months) do headstands! She gives tips on how to do it in a safe, controlled way (use your hands to support your child at the hips, no pressure on the neck). Babies and kids love going upside down, so it's a great exercise!

The Blah
This DVD seems to appeal more to parents than to the children. True, kids do like to look at photos and videos of other kids, and that might be enough to keep them interested, but some animation sequences of some animated characters doing exercises might be a nice change.

The Bottom Line
My Gym At Home brings all the fun of a typical My Gym class to your home. It has lots of ideas for parents who want to share some fun, active playtime with their young children, and it's a fun way to get babies and toddlers moving!

Win a My Gym At Home DVD!
One lucky Bonggamom Finds winner will receive a copy of My Gym At Home DVD. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post and tell me one physical activity you enjoy doing with your kids.

If "It's All Too Much", Peter Walsh is here to help

There's a lot to look forward to during the holidays: parties, cooking, baking, cards, presents, shopping, wrapping, travel, relatives...... and I'm getting stressed just listing it all down. "It's All Too Much" is a familiar theme that's running around this holiday season (kind of like the flu!), and it also happens to be the title of organization expert Peter Walsh's new DVD. Like with all his books, Peter is going to help you simplify your life and control clutter -- only this time, you'll get to watch Peter walking the walk, not just talking the talk.

Here's a short preview of what you'll get from the DVD:

I can't wait to receive my review copy; hopefully his tips and tricks are going to help me make getting organized one New Year's resolution I can keep!

I will be receiving a review copy of this DVD as a reference for a future review post, but no monetary compensation. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Disney's Haunted Mansion turns 40

Wow, Disney's Haunted Mansion is turning 40 this year! Usually when someone turns forty the polite thing to say is, you look much younger. Well, I have to say that the ghosts at the Haunted Mansion do look their age, and more -- like a hundred and forty years more! And that's just terrific!

Check out this video of the history of the Haunted Mansion -- guaranteed to get anyone's Haunted Mansion Memories flowing. I remember my first visit to the Haunted Mansion well. I was 7 and my sister was 8, and at first we were too scared to go on, although we told ourselves we wanted to save our E-tickets for the Matterhorn and Pirates of the Caribbean. By the end of our visit, we had no E-tickets left and our parents had 2. We decided to use them on the Haunted Mansion.

We were terrified! I didn't think I could go on when that first room began to sink and the portratis on the wall began to "grow" and turn scary. But once we boarded the little black cars, everything was fine and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. It's one of my favorite Disneyland rides!

I didn't take the kids to the Haunted Mansion when we visited Disneyland last December. There was no more E-ticket excuse this time, but it was really crowded, we didn't have much time, and honestly, my kids were only 7, 4 and 4 at the time, and they're scaredycats just like I was. So we'll have to wait till next time to see the Haunted Mansion. I'm sure the ghosts will still be there, waiting for us to "hurry back".
