Creating the perfect sandwich is easy -- just think about the foods you love, and slap 'em between 2 slices of Oroweat bread!  We've just arrived home from a 5-week vacation in the Philippines -- which meant 5 weeks of rice and meat galore. We were craving something fresh and simple, so I came up with a yummy Black Bean Guacamole Sandwich!  Avocadoes are one of our favorite foods, and we haven't eaten one in 5 weeks, so it was extra delicious :) Here's how to make it:

* 2 slices Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat bread
* 2 Tablespoons guacamole
* 2 Tablespoons refried black beans
* 1 Tablespoon sour cream
* 1 slice medium cheddar cheese

Spread guacamole on 1 slice of bread. Place cheese on top of guacamole. Spread refried black beans and sour cream on the other slice of bread. Put the two slices of bread together, cut in half, and enjoy!

Make a Better Sandwich with Oroweat® Bread (and a giveaway for you!)

Back to School is almost here, and if you're anything like me, you're already planning your first month's packed lunch menu in your head!  If you're out of ideas for what to pack for your kid's school lunch, check out my What's For Lunch series of posts and photos on Finding Bonggamom!  Most of my lunches take 10 minutes or less to prepare.  I tend to stick with sandwiches, wraps, salads, and finger food because my kids want something yummy and quick to eat.

Of course, I want their lunches to be as healthy as possible and include a variety of food groups -- veggies, proteins, fruits, and grain.  I try to use the best ingredients possible -- and that includes the bread!  That's why Oroweat® is one of my favorite brands of sandwich bread.  It tastes so good, and it's sturdy enough to add all kinds of fillings.  It's even sturdy enough to grill on our panini press!  What's more, all of Oroweat® Whole Grain Sliced Breads and Oroweat® Sandwich Thins® Rolls contain/are:

3 to 4 grams of fiber per slice or thin
Zero grams of Trans Fat
No High Fructose Corn Syrup
Cholesterol free

We usually buy Oroweat® 100% Whole Wheat, and sometimes I'll buy Oroweat® Sandwich Thins® Rolls when I want to make a veggie burger.  Sometimes I'll treat the family to my favorite variety of all, Oroweat® Country Buttermilk!

Here are three of the sandwiches I prepare most often:

Ham, Avocado, and Tomato on Oroweat® Country Buttermilk

Peanut butter and grape jelly on Oroweat® Country Buttermilk

Grilled cheese and tomato sandwich on Oroweat® 100% Whole Wheat

Here are a few more sandwich fillings I like to use (all of these work great on Oroweat® 100% Whole Wheat!): 

• Cream cheese and cucumber
• Brie, pear, and prosciutto
• Egg salad and romaine lettuce
• Hummus and spinach
• Grilled peppers, goat cheese and turkey
• Peanut butter and banana
• Chocolate hazelnut spread and strawberries

Since we are going to Disneyland next week, I looked long and hard at these comfy sneakers ($14.99):

Hmmm... they're comfy, but not as girly as I wanted for this trip.  These Mary Jane sneakers became another candidate ($16.99)....

... and so did these ($24.99).  Navy is the new black, and these were quite an upscale name brand, so I was really tempted to get them.

In the end, the lure of spring and all things green was too much, and I went for these flip flops -- but they're not just any flip flops!  They have the airiest soles (can you guess the brand?), with actual arch support, leather instep, and the daintiest flower detail on the strap.  I'll actually be able to walk around Disneyland in these! Best of all, they were just $13.99!  They were the perfect pair of shoes to get at Ross this spring, and the perfect candidate for Ross's Show Off Your Shoes promotion.  I uploaded the photo on to Facebook, and I'm hoping it will get enough likes to qualify me for a prize!

Giveaway: Celebrate Earth Day with Grocery Outlet and win a Gift Card!

Earth Day is approaching, and there's no better way to celebrate being green than by saving some green at Grocery Outlet Bargain Market! With such low prices, you might think that Grocery Outlet only sells thrift store, mass-market brand canned goods, not higher-end, all-natural and organic brands.  But Grocery Outlet has a whole aisle dedicated to organic foods!  I first discovered this all-important fact thanks to my friend Dena, who is an all-natural, organic foods purist -- a regular Grocery Outlet shopper!

To celebrate Earth Day, I went on an eco-friendly shopping trip to Grocery Outlet and challenged myself to find deals on nothing but organic foods.  You could barely call it a challenge; in no time at all I filled my cart with $50 worth of organic goodies ($51.69, to be exact), saving almost half off regular prices in the process!  The 3 boxes of CLIF Kid snacks and 3 Kashi pizzas would have easily cost $50 at any other place.

This box of CLIF Kid Full Moon Brownie ZBars is the perfect example of how Grocery Outlet can keep their prices so low.  Notice the Halloween-themed packaging -- retailers don't want to sell these after October 31, so Grocery Outlet can get them at a super cheap price.  Do I care that there are werewolves and witches on the wrapper?  Heck, no!  Normally I buy these for about $1 each.  You can also buy them in bulk for for about $16 or $17 for a pack of 18.  I've seen them on sale for about $12 -- but I paid $10.47 at Grocery Outlet.

Again, it's worth noting that these are well-known organic brands.  Here are more natural or organic brands I saw at my local Grocery Outlet Bargain Market:
