Make your Valentine's Heart Beat Faster with Logitech Ultimate Ears

Still looking for a Valentine's Day present for your loved one?  How about something that will make him or her dance with joy: a Ultimate Ears (UE) portable speaker from Logitech!  UE speakers are truly the ultimate -- in sound, in portability, in quality.  With a UE MEGABOOM, UE BOOM, or UE MINI BOOM, you can take the party everywhere you go.

Logitech sent me a UE BOOM unit to review, and I didn't need any more than a day to decide that it's a keeper. The gorgeous design, fun colors, (I chose red and black, but it comes in a variety of fashionable colors), and great sound make it the perfect present for anyone who loves to listen and dance to music with friends.

The UE BOOM comes with a cool, hi-tech-looking cylindrical case, which houses everything you need -- the speaker, a connecting USB cable, and a charging plug.  The cable and plug slot nicely at the top and bottom, which makes it super easy to pack for travel.

The UE BOOM is just over 7 inches long, and about 2 and a half inches in diameter. You can easily hold it in the palm of your hand.  That portability came in really handy today, when I brought the UE BOOM to school with me today. I was able to carry it around, connect it to my phone via Bluetooth, and play music for the kids at lunchtime. The music came out loud and clear during our lunchtime dance party, and the kids loved it! It was perfect to take out into the middle of the field, where the school's regular speaker system can't reach.

One of the best things about UE speakers is that you can pair them up!  That's right, you use UE's Double Up feature to pair one UE speaker with a second, and control both of them right from your phone or tablet.  You can combine the two speakers to amplify volume, or you can use the pair as stereo speakers to get left and right stereo sound.  You can Double UP your UE BOOM with another UE BOOM, with a UE MEGABOOM (if you are running version 7x or 8x of the UE software), or with a UE MINIBOOM (if you are running version 5x or 6x of the UE software).

I actually own 2 UE MINIBOOM speakers, which Double Up nicely with each other, but I wanted to try Doubling Up one of the UE MINIBOOM speakers with my new UE BOOM speaker.  It was easy as pie -- just open the UE BOOM app, connect your UE BOOM, then select the Double UP option and add your second speaker (in my case, the UE MINIBOOM).  I haven't found any other wireless speaker that can connect two units at once via Bluetooth, and I think it's a fantastic feature.

Speaking of features, Double Up is just the beginning. Here's a list of UE BOOM features that I love:

How to make Valentine's Day canister with Scotch Color and Pattern Duct Tape (and a giveaway for you!)

We just started out on a long break (our school's annual Ski Week/President's Day holiday), and since we've got five whole days, no vacation plans, and a rainy forecast, we'll be doing lots of crafts!  Valentine's Day is coming up, so I've got lots of lovely, flowery crafts on my mind.  You don't need to spend loads on craft materials either -- just grab a couple of rolls of duct tape. There are countless Valentine's Day-themed crafts you can make -- and if you use Scotch Color & Pattern duct tape, the possibilities are even greater. They have a ton of patterns and colors that are perfect for V-Day:  solid pink, solid red, solid black, red lips on black, pink leopard print, rainbow hearts, pink cupcakes, even pink Barbie-themed patterns!  I love them all :)

I received a variety of rolls of Scotch Color & Pattern duct tape to make some Valentine's Day crafts with, so we're all set for our long weekend.  To start with, I made some Valentine's Day canisters in a few different designs to hold Valentine's Day cards, pens, paper clips, or whatever you need to store.  Here's how to make your own:

Duct Tape Valentine's Day canister
You'll need:

• a can with a resealable lid
• Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape in your favorite Valentine's Day colors and patterns
• Exacto knife

1) Clean out the inside of the can.

2) Cut strips of duct tape.  Each strip should be long enough to circle the can once.  If you are using light-colored duct tape and your can has lots of designs, each strip should be long enough to circle the can twice.  Use an Exacto knife for the cleanest cut.

3) Wrap a strip of duct tape around the can.  Continue wrapping strips of duct tape around the can until the can is completely covered.

4)  Use an Exacto knife to cut a thin strip out of the middle of the plastic resealable lid.

You can turn your can into storage container for your child's Valentines cards!  Or, you can turn it into a coin bank -- just cut a shorter slit in the lid.

Finally, you can do away with the lid altogether and turn your can into a pretty storage for all your child's pens and pencils!

Speaking of pens and pencils, did you notice the pretty flower pen in the photo above?  I made it using Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape!  I followed a great step-by-step tutorial for duct tape rose pens on Instructables; you can find similar instructions (for a rosette hairpiece) on the Scotch Duct Tape project site.

Valentines Giveaway: Scented Body Products from Good Earth Beauty

Last-minute tips for making your Valentine's special

Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you're all set for a hot date or just planning to turn on the tv and snuggle on the couch, I hope you're all set and ready to show your partner/wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/significant other how much you care about them. * Do the unexpected. Lady and the Tramp, Diamond Edition

Here's a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day with your kids -- watching Lady and the Tramp, Disney's story of two mismatched canines who fall in love, is a family favorite and a love story classic. Lady and the Tramp Diamond Edition is now available on Blu-Ray, and the film is not so much "restored" as it is "transformed". The colors and detail are amazing! And like all re-releases, Disney has packed this one with loads of fun extras, like 3 deleted scenes, a documentary and a never-before released song.

I still know the words of that song, and it's so heartwarming to think that my kids do, too. Hopefully their kids will know it someday -- that's how timeless Lady and the Tramp is. This movie has given us some of the most unforgettable love scenes (only Disney could make a plate of spaghetti in an alleyway romantic!), and this Diamond Edition does a great job of showcasing them. It's definitely one for your home collection!

My kids' Tiny Prints Valentine's Day card came in the mail a couple of days ago, and I wanted to brag to show everyone how adorable they are! I have to admit, I had my doubts. I thought they'd be way too "kiddy" for my sophisticated 2nd and 5th graders. I didn't even think they'd find a design they liked. But I was wrong. Each child found a design they absolutely loved, and they were all so excited to order it. That shows you how much I know about kid-friendly designs.

The photos on the Tiny Prints site are cute, but they don't do justice to the real thing. These valentines are itty-bitty, just a bit larger than a business card, and each one fits comfortably in the palm of my hand. Some designs are folded cards and some are flat cards, and all of them can be personalized with your child's name. Obviously they can't compete in price with drugstore valentines ($17 for 20 versus $3 for 20), but they are a clear winner in the cute factor. And here are some discounts to help lower the price:

Justin Beaver -- the perfect Valentine's Day present! (giveaway)

In the past, I have been known to gift my loved ones with cutesy stuffed toys for Valentine's Day, but the recipients have always been minors, i.e. my kids. I'm not the biggest fan of plush Valentine's Day presents for adults, but I'll make an exception for this adorable plush beaver from Cuddle Toys. Why? My Valentine's Day Gift Guide
