I received a sample for review

Our school year begins tomorrow, and in just about 12 hours we are going to wake up to the sound of an alarm for the first time in 10 weeks. Goodbye, lazy summer, and hello, rush-rush-rush school morning routine! The Pea and I will soon be racing against the clock to eat breakfast, pack a lunch, and look decent, all before 6:30am.

One of the most difficult things about our morning routine is taming our wild, wavy, frizzy hair. When The Pea was a toddler and preschooler, she used to scream whenever I would try to brush her tangles away! Now that she's older, she grits her teeth and does it herself, but it's no less of a pain (literally and figuratively). Starting out with wet hair does help tame the frizzies somewhat, but brushing wet, tangled hair isn't good for hair -- it weakens the shaft. Fortunately we've discovered The Wet Brush. This detangling brush has Intelli-flex bristles that glide through knots and tangles. I honestly don't know how they do it, but it's true! It's like they've doused the bristles in conditioner. It's noticeably easier and less painful to comb through wet, tangled hair.

This is what I look like coming out of the shower. Note the wet, tangled mane of hair.

Here I am, beginning to brush out the tangles with The Wet Brush. I don't feel my hair pulling or stretching at all, and the bristles don't dig into my scalp.

Even 3Po told me, "Mom, this brush really does glide through your hair much easier than your other brush!".

My hair is all smooth and straight and shiny -- and undamaged, thanks to The Wet Brush!

If you have anything other than ultra-straight, silky hair, you definitely need to get The Wet Brush!

Can you believe it, Caboodles is 25 years old! Remember Caboodles? They were the beauty organizer that everyone had, or had to have. My sister and I shared one, and it looked like this, only in teal and purple:

We kept our hair clips, ribbons and scrunchies inside (remember that other 80's beauty staple, the Scünci?), along with various tubs of Dippity-Doo hairgel, brushes, combs and our curling iron (because crimped hair was soooo It those days). When I look back at our hair, I cringe -- probably the only thing that has stood the test of time is the Caboodles case itself. Caboodles are still as fashionable and functional as they were 25 years ago!

In case you think the 80's are a decade best left forgotten (I happen to agree on that, and if you don't, I have 2 words for you: mullet hairdo) Caboodles has kept up with the times, and their product lineup has cases and organizer of all shapes, sizes and prices. Check out their 2012 holiday lineup:

They are all adorable, but I have a special place in my heart for the last one: the My First Love, a limited edition vintage case from 1987. Caboodles was nice enough to send me one of their My First Love cases, and it was like I was back in the eighties. The boxy shape, geometric font, Miami Vice pink and silver clasp are pure 80's.

It holds a ton of stuff -- The Pea has commandeered it to organize her extensive nail care collection:

The funny thing is, The Pea LOVES the 80's and all the neon colors (half of her polish colors are 80's inspired), so she's the perfect owner for this case. Her dad is shocked that she has amassed so many bottles of nail polish, but hey, she's a preteen girl. As one rather famous 80's icon put it, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! Thank goodness it's all in her Caboodles case and not littered all over our bathroom!

Heidi Klum Shine

Alfie once saw Heidi Klum in the flesh about fifteen years ago, when he was in Australia. He said it's easy to see why she's a supermodel -- she's clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the population in the looks department. Heidi did get lucky with her looks, but she's not just a pretty face. Look at what she has accomplished in just 38 years! She's a supermodel, designer, "Project Runway" host, producer, mother and wife.

Now Heidi has added perfumer to her resume. Her new perfume, Shine, has just launched in stores; Heidi Klum Shine eau de toilette can be found at Rite Aid Stores nationwide. The .5 oz bottle is $17 and the 1oz bottle is $28.

Shine oriental scent made of pink peppercorn, pear and mandarin top notes; a mimosa absolute, sunflower, and lily of the valley heart; and musk cosmone, vanilla and Venezuelan tonka bean drydown. Rite Aid sent me a small bottle of SHINE to try out for myself, and not being a perfumer, I couldn't exactly identify with any of those scents. All I know is that Shine is a really nice fragrance that could be worn during the day or night. This is no light, fruity, girly fragrance -- it's definitely for a woman, but it's not grandmotherly at all. The scent stays on your skin for quite a while, and you smell nice the whole time. In my opinion, the scent merits a more refined, expensive-looking bottle, but it's not a big deal. Alfie has given Shine a thumbs-up, saying any man wouldn't mind dating a woman who smells like that.
