On August 27, American Girl is relaunching their Bitty Baby line of baby dolls. The new line has more dolls, more books, more accessories and more clothes (you can read more about the new line on yesterday's Bitty Baby post). Little girls everywhere will be delighted because now they have more ways than ever to find the perfect childhood companion and friend. American Girl sent me a Bitty Baby from their new collection to review, and as promised, here is my post with more photos:
Bitty Baby is a 15-inch doll, slightly smaller than the average newborn. Ours has fair skin, blue eyes and fair hair, but there are 11 dolls to choose from, each with a different skin tone, hair color, and eye color combination. The eyes close when the doll is lying down, and open when the doll is sitting or standing up.
Baby Bitty's signature sleeper has been revamped. It is now long sleeved, with a kimono-style wrap front that I adore. The floral print on white background is really sweet, but I always worry about white -- I'm sure it will get stained eventually! Fortunately the material is knit cotton, so any stains will probably wash out easily.
Check out the ruffle details on the cuffs and neckline!
Bitty Baby also comes with a velcro-tab diaper that little girls can easily undo and put back on again.
Bitty Baby comes with a keepsake star toy in a little pink box (note: the little bunny and bear in the photo are not included; they are just props!).
The box has a sweet inspirational quote on the bottom.
You can find Bitty Baby dolls online at AmericanGirl.com and at all American Girl stores. The basic doll-and-book set costs $55. Yes, you can buy baby dolls for half that price, maybe even a third, but Bitty Baby is really high quality and has the potential to be a cherished keepsake. I really wish I had known about American Girl and Bitty Baby when The Pea was a toddler. She did have a couple of baby dolls, but they quickly lost limbs and eyes. I would much rather have given her a high quality doll that she could have played with and cherished (probably even 2 dolls, since she wasn't even 3 years old when the twins were born) ... and once she had outgrown the doll, she could have stored it and kept it until it was time to give the doll to her own little girl!
Disclosure: I received a sample doll for review purposes. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Ick, I hate this new Bitty Baby, the face is ugly and THEY TOOK AWAY BITTY BEAR!! I have a current Bitty Baby and she is adorable, this... ugh.
Okay, I may just have to get a bitty baby! :D
I like the new bitty baby along with the previous version. Also I love the new shoulder. It seems more natural. It's a shame they have raised the price so much. Linda W. Michigan
The new bitty baby is $80 in NYC, Washington DC and online.. (and i presume everywhere else)
I like the new clothing and i love that the crib is now made out of wood but i dislike the rise in cost, that the bear was taken away and also that the outfits no longer have the little book
Am I the only one in the world who is bothered that the new bitty baby as an asymmetrical face???.. The eyebrows, eyes and mouth do not line up... did they do that deliberately at an attempt at realistic faces or is it cheap manufacturing??
both of our brand new bitty babies are like this.
The bitty baby in your picture is also like this.
I agree, the price jump is a little ridiculous and the star isn't cute as the Bitty Bear.
Very disappointed with American Girl's changes.
I'm getting one of the new bittys I'm getting blond hair blue eyes !!! I'm so so so so excited!!!!
