Peeled Snacks: all the taste of dried fruit, none of the added sugar
Sunday, August 12, 2012
School starts in just 4 days (ack!), and once again it's time to scour the supermarket shelves for healthy snacks that my kids will actually eat. We recently received samples of Peeled Snacks, a new brand of dried fruit. That might not seem so exciting, except for one tiny feature -- Peeled Snacks does NOT add any sugar to its dried fruit!
This is huge! My kids adore dried mangoes, but I've never been comfortable with all the white sugar added to sweeten it up. Fortunately, Peeled Snacks realizes that mangoes (and apricots, pineapples, apples) are sweet enough -- if you select the best fruit, you don't need the extra sugar to make it taste amazing. And that's just what we found when we tried the samples that Peeled Snacks sent us. We absolutely love the dried mangoes, pineapples, apricots and apples!
I'm not too excited about the bananas (you know what bananas look like when they're left out in the open -- that's right, they blacken, and the Peeled Snacks dried bananas look shriveled and black, not too appetizing), and my kids are not too fond of the figs (which are probably an acquired taste), but I would heartily recommend any of the other varieties.
About Peeled Snacks
It's time to redeem the snack! It means well, but comes with some baggage - thanks to those big ol' bags of crunchy, preservative-packed gut busters. Let's face it, the snack has a bad rap. That's why we believe it's time to redeem the snack.
Enter Peeled Snacks (www.peeledsnacks.com), the convenient and healthy foods that make people feel good about snacking. Founded by a mom who cares about good-for-you snacks, Peeled Snacks are gently dried, organic fruit snacks that are tasty, healthy and have no added sugar or other preservatives.
In fact, each single serving of Peeled Snacks offers a full serving of fruit that is packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Finally, the snack is redeemed!
