Coldstone Creamery Make A Wish

For my family, Cold Stone Creamery is the ultimate ice cream treat. We each have our favorite creations (mine is the Founder's Favorite with almonds instead of pecans and I dare anyone to name a better flavor) but now and then we like to try new flavors. Lucky for us, Coldstone Creamery was a sponsor of the Child's Play Bloganthropy Awards, so I was given some gift cards to Coldstone Creamery so I could take my family out for some ice cream.

This time around, we stuck to our favorites, but on September 30 we're going to be trying out a new flavor at Cold Stone Creamery's ninth annual "World's Largest Ice Cream Social": Kate's Creation, a heavenly concoction of caramel apple ice cream mixed with graham cracker pie crust, chocolate shavings and apple pie filling. During the social, Cold Stone Creamery will be giving away three-ounce portions of Kate’s Creation from 5-8 p.m., while encouraging guests to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. You don't even have to wait till September 30 to make a donation: throughout September, every Cold Stone store nationwide will sell paper wish stars for $1 each.

What a great cause, and what a yummy flavor! See you at the ice cream social!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary gift card to Cold Stone Creamery at the Bloganthropy Awards. I was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Celebrate California Strawberries with a Strawberry Teakettle Giveaway!

I had the pleasure of meeting the folks from the California Strawberry Commission last month at Child Play Communication's Bloganthropy Awards, and I'll thrilled to be working with them to promote strawberries! My whole family loves strawberries, and we're so lucky to be living in California because we can get the sweetest, juiciest, brightest strawberries any time of the year.

There are so many delicious ways to enjoy strawberries! We cut strawberries up into our cereal, and blend them up with bananas and yogurt for a healthy smoothie. I lay them in a prebaked pie shell and pour glaze on top for a quick, yummy strawberry pie. Sometimes we eat strawberries and whipped cream for dessert. And for a decadent treat, we love strawberries dipped in chocolate! Here are few more ways we enjoy strawberries:

Strawberry frosting for The Pea's birthday cupcakes, made with fresh strawberries.

Sliced strawberries to decorate Alfie's chocolate birthday cake.

Yummy berry parfait made with yogurt, cinnamon, strawberries, and -- guess what? -- salad dressing!

For more strawberry recipes, you can visit the California Strawberry Commission's website; they even have a free iPhone app that you can download to get over 50 strawberry recipes from top food bloggers.

Dora the Explorer "We Did It!" Doll Review and Giveaway

Can you believe it? Dora the Explorer is 10 years old! It seems just yesterday that The Pea was jumping up and down in front of the tv, yelling "Arriba! Abajo!" and singing "We Did It" along with Dora and Boots and Benny. But yes, last month Dora the Explorer celebrated her 10th anniversary -- and to get the party started, Fisher-Price has released an updated version of the popular "We Did It! Dora" dancing doll. We received one of the dolls to review (and we're giving one away!), so keep reading to find out what we thought about it:

The Basics
Fisher-Price's new version of the original We Did It! Dora Doll takes Dora into the 21st century. Dora has longer hair, new clothes, and new dance moves.

Here's what Fisher-Price has to say about the new doll:
In honor of the 10th anniversary, Fisher-Price has taken Dora and her signature “We Did It” dance to the next level as the doll comes to life like never before for an entirely new generation of Dora fans. Fisher-Price introduced its first We Did It! Dora Doll in 2002 and it quickly soared to the top of kids’ wish lists as one of the best-selling toys of the holiday season.

The original Dora doll sang the “We Did It!” song and swayed back and forth to the music. Eight years of technological advances later, Fisher-Price turns the new Dora doll into a truly magical experience. This year, Dora engages kids with her signature songs and dance and moves her arms, swings her beautiful long hair and swivels her body to the beat as she teaches kids the steps to her signature dance and engages them with four modes of interactive play: Teach-Me (where Dora teaches kids the “We Did It!” Dance), “We Did It!” Dance, Freeze Dance, and Say It Two Ways bilingual dance game. The “We Did It!” doll is for children three years and up and retails for $39.99.

The Bongga
Fisher-Price certainly Did It with this doll -- I'm amazed that The Pea liked this doll so much! Not because the doll sucks (quite the opposite), but because she's nine. If The Pea likes this doll, imagine how a 3 year old Dora fan would feel! Here's what we loved the most:

* The Pea loves Dora's silky long hair (I'm glad they decided to have real hair on the doll instead of plastic molded hair!) . It's a lot longer than the older version, so little girls can style it.

* You all know I'm not a big fan of the newer, tweeny Dora version, so I'm so glad this Dora looks like her preschool self, albeit prettier and a bit more feminine -- which I think actually makes her look great. This is one Dora makeover I approve of!

* Dora has some pretty sweet moves! She waves her arms up and down, swivels her hips and turns around. To a grownup she might look a tad possessed, but I think kids really love her.

Ummm... oops. I guess I held my camera the wrong way! Here's a better version......

* There's a lot of variety in Dora's songs and dialogue, so kids don't get bored. Also, each song lasts quite a while so kids don't have to keep pressing the button to restart.

The Blah
Here are some things that I think could be improved:

* There are long periods of time when Dora doesn't move at all, which might make parents wonder if she's broken already -- but don't worry, she's not.

* You can't remove Dora's orange trousers. It would be nice for girls to be able to change Dora's outfit!

* Also, this doll doesn't come with instructions. I know, how hard can it be to press a button, right? But she's marketed as having 4 modes of interactive play, so it would be nice to know from the start how to switch from mode to mode. Even a short blurb on the carton would be nice.

The Bottom Line
Dora is destined to be a hit with preschoolers for decades to come, and this new We Did It! Dora doll is destined to be a must-have item for a whole new generation of Dora fans.

RMHC Day of Change is today

McDonald's is known for Good Times, Great Tastes and Happy Meals. But today it's time to change the way you think about McDonald's -- September 9 is McDonald's RMHC Day of Change, and everyone who drops their spare change in an RMHC box at participating McDonald's restaurants will be making a contribution to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

I was invited to tour a Ronald McDonald House last June, and meeting the volunteers and families was a truly special, emotional moment. These houses allow families with sick kids to spend quality family time together when they need it most, so it's a worthy charity, and all you need to spare in order to help is your spare change. So drop by a participating McDonald's today (and that's not just a slogan, I really do mean today!).

Vaseline Aloe Fresh Review

As a product reviewer, I love discovering new products, but one of my biggest finds at the Unilver PentHOUSE event last month was actually from a brand I've been using all my life. We are huge Vaseline fans -- my mom uses the basic petroleum jelly for almost every conceivable skin ailment, from mosquito bites to rashes to burns, and we always keep a jar in the house for 3Po to slather on his eczema -- so it's almost a given that any Vaseline product would get a glowing review from me. But the Aloe Fresh Moisturizing Gel I fell in love with at the Unilever PentHOUSE Suite is definitely not my mother's old Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. I raved about it so much that Vaseline's PR agency sent me the entire Aloe Fresh line to try!

The Basics
Vaseline's new line of Aloe Fresh products -- Hydrating Body Lotion, Protecting Body Lotion and Moisturizing Body Gel -- contains aloe vera formulations for light, non-greasy moisturizing.

Skin is amazing, but needs proper care year round to stay healthy and look its best. During the warmer summer months, many women find their winter lotions unpleasant, leaving their skin feeling heavy or sticky. Vaseline Aloe Fresh is a line of light and fresh lotions that leave skin feeling hydrated and refreshed -- even in summer. It's perfect for warm weather or any time you want a lotion that feels light!

The Bongga
When I was little, my nanny had an aloe vera plant. When we had cuts or burns, she would break off one of the leaves, and she'd rub the clear gel oozing from the inside onto our skin. The cooling effect was incredible! That was many, many years ago, and my memory may be faulty, but Vaseline's Aloe Fresh Moisturizing Gel feels a LOT like that natural aloe. Rub the gel onto your skin and it feels instantly cool! It's a gel, but it's not sticky at all. You might get the same effect by putting a bottle of body lotion in the fridge (and that's actually a tried-and-tested tip for staying cool in the summer) but I need the space for food. Just give me the Aloe Fresh gel.

Honestly. Try it. It's great.

The Hydrating Lotion and Protecting Lotion with SPF 15 don't have that cooling effect, but I'm still really impressed with how light they feel on my skin. I'm really picky about my body lotions because I hate, hate, hate putting on heavy, greasy lotions for daytime use -- especially the ones with sun protection. Alfie is even pickier. His body lotion has to be ultra-light, contain sun protection and smell nice -- and by "nice", he means scentless, or if scented, it has to be very light, not flowery, not girly, not fruity, not cloying (see, I told you he was picky). The Aloe Fresh line passes both my standards AND Alfie standards. The SPF 15 lotion feels so light (no discernible difference between the SPF lotion and non-SPF lotion), I don't even know why you'd bother with the regular, non-SPF hydrating lotion!

The Blah
If I say anything negative about any Vaseline product, I risk incurring my mother's wrath. Fortunately, like mother like daughter, so I'm safe.

The Bottom Line
Vaseline's new Aloe Fresh line feels so light on your skin, maintaining your moisturizing routine throughout the hot months is never a chore. Vaseline has captured a whole new generation of loyal users with it!

Disclosure: I received an assortment of samples from Vaseline, but was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Product information is provided by the featured company/product and is clearly indicated as such. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Make Your Own Shimmer Soap Kit Review

There's always a lot of talk about how we need to do more to get girls interested in science and math, and it's true there are lots of educational programs designed to inspire girls to expand their horizons. But kids' science kits always seem to have a "boy" or "gender-neutral" slant, so it was a nice change to receive a science kit geared towards girls to review from Team Mom. In fact, it's so girly, it's disguised as a spa kit! Here's what I thought of it:

The Basics
We received a Make Your Own Shimmer Soap Kit from Scientific Explorer (MSRP $5.99, available at specialty toy stores such as Learning Express), which comes with everything you need to create and mold 4 strawberry-scented soaps.

Here's a description of the product:
In this kit, you'll find everything you need to make your own shimmer soap from scratch. You'll learn some really cool science about matter. Plus it comes with four different molds to create different shapes. Soap is scented strawberry–yummy!

The Bongga
The Pea had so much fun with this kit! She made 4 cute soaps that she's going to share with her friends. The instructions are clear and easy for a girl of 8 to follow all on her own; in fact, you'll want her to read the instructions because they contain facts about solids, liquids, matter and energy, with some fun soap facts mixed in. The instructions read like an experiment (i.e., "Step 1: Let's start with some observations..... is it a solid, liquid, or gas?" ) so girls really get the message that there's science behind the soap.

Science behind the soap... that's it, in a nutshell. The best part about this product is how it takes a "girly" activity like soap making and turns it into a learning experience. This kit really got The Pea thinking about how science affects our everyday lives, how science can be cool, and how the words "scientist" and "girly" can coexist peacefully.

The Blah
The packaging needs improvement: the little bottle containing pink dye & fragrance had spilled at some point in time, so when we opened it was all over the instruction sheet. The instructions smelled heavenly, but I'd have preferred the fragrance to go on the soaps.

The Bottom Line
Scientific Explorer's Spa Kits combine scientific learning with girly fun. Buy it for birthday parties, sleepovers or playdates -- what a great way to get girls into science!

Disclosure: I received a product sample courtesy of Scientific Explorer Spa Kits and Team Mom, but was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Webkinz JR. Party (and a giveaway for you!)

One of my favorite items from this year's BlogHer was the cute pink Webkinz Jr. elephant that I picked up from the MomSelect Swag Suite. My kids are wild about Webkinz -- not just the online world, but also the actual plush toys themselves -- and thanks to MomSelect, even though they're out of the target age range for Webkinz Jr., they now love Webkinz Jr. as well! Since Webkinz Jr's are designed for kids up to age 6, they're bigger, rounder and softer than regular Webkinz and Lil'Kinz pets. Webkinz Jr. also have their own online world where you can enter Webkinz Jr. codes and adopt a virtual version of the plush pets.

webkinz JR world
Since Webkinz Jr. is for younger kids, the online world is simpler than the regular Webkinz World. Kids don't need to read in order to figure out what to do, thanks to simple visual cues and audio directions. They can feed their virtual pets, play games with them, decorate their rooms and play games in order to earn cash to buy food and clothes and home decor. Unlike Webkinz World, Webkinz Jr. requires a parent account to set up kids' accounts, enter codes and add friends, which gives it an added layer of security for younger kids. It's a great introduction to Webkinz (or a great addition to your child's Webkinz collection).

Each child received a Webkinz Jr. goody bag

MomSelect must have heard my kids' oohs and ahhs and These Webkinz. Jr's are soooo cute!, because not long after I got home from BlogHer, MomSelect invited me to host a Webkinz Jr. party for my children and their friends! It was a perfect way to start the school year. Each child was thrilled to receive a Webkinz JR. goody bag containing a coloring book, cd, stickers -- and best of all, their very own plush Webkinz JR. pet.

Assortment of Webkinz. Jr. pets at the party

They chose from an assortment of baby animals -- giraffe, mouse, dog, cat and pink elephant. Aside from these goodies, the party kit also contained lots of tips, recipes and materials to keep the kids entertained throughout the afternoon. We received an assortment of plastic beads so the kids could make friendship bracelets for each other. They also made bracelets for their Webkinz Jr. pets (which turned out to be a good thing, because some kids ended up with the same animal, and they used the bracelets to identify whose pets belonged to whom).

The second craft activity was making animal paper bag puppets, but the kids ended up using the paper bags, pom poms, stickers and paper to make costumes for their new pets. I'm not one to stifle children's artistic impulses, so I tossed the instruction paper in the bin (actually I think one of the kids cut it up to make a bonnet) and went with the flow of their creativity. Any grownup dropping by our house that afternoon would have thought a paper factory had exploded, with all the bits and scraps floating around! It was so cute to see them interacting with their Webkinz Jr. pets and each other.

Don't get chocolate on the Webkinz Jr.'s fur!

I used the recipes included in the party kit to make some snacks that the kids couldn't keep their hands away from (or, apparently, their pets). Check out my party recipes post on Finding Bonggamom to see how they turned out! We kept the party lively with music from the Webkinz cd, "Bebop & the Beats" (click here to read my review of the Bebop & the Beats cd on Bonggamom Finds).

Enjoying the Beach with Coleman

Every year we go to Santa Cruz beach with some family friends on Labor Day Weekend, and every year we do the same thing. We meet on the beach, have a picnic lunch, frolic in the sand and surf (and I NEVER put so much as a toe into that icy cold water) then head over to the Boardwalk and spend the rest of the day on the rides. Nothing changes except the kids, who grow taller every year.

Except this year. This year we had the brand spanking new cooler that Coleman sent us so our family could enjoy the outdoors more. Our old Coleman cooler is wonderful, but just too small to hold lunch, snacks, and all-day drinks for a family of five. I've always been envious of our friends' Coleman wheeled cooler, and now we've got a Coleman cooler that's the hottest one on the beach.

The Basics
Coleman's 50 Quart Wheeled Xtreme 5 Party Stacker Cooler has wheels and a telescoping handle for easy transport. It holds 84 beverage cans and keeps contents cool for up to 5 days at temperatures up to 90 degrees! The lid has 4 cupholders, one at each corner, and the cooler can be stacked with other Coleman coolers for space-saving storage.

The Bongga
I feel like saying Hooooo-Ahhhhh!, because this is really a workhouse of a cooler. You can load it up inside (with food and ice) and outside (with coolers, bags, and other paraphernalia) and cart it around easily, thanks to the handle and wheels. We were even able to pull it across the sand! Note the various beach bags, blankets and chairs Alfie piled on top.

It's so big, I was able to pack lunch, drinks and snacks for the five of us, with room to spare. I tossed in a couple of ice packs and everything inside the cooler stayed ice cold the whole day, even though we left it in full sun all day. The day after our beach trip, it was no trouble at all to clean; I just hosed it down, opened the drain at the bottom and let all the water flow out. It's really the perfect family cooler!

The Blah
The lid can be difficult to open, and I would love to have a tray that fits at the top of the cooler so that we can store some items that need to stay dry and away from all the melting ice.

The Bottom Line
Coleman's 50 Quart Wheeled Xtreme 5 Party Cooler is the perfect way to keep things cold for large gatherings, whether you're in your back yard or toting a picnic lunch.

Disclosure: Coleman sent me this cooler to facilitate my review. I was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Product information is provided by the featured company/product and is clearly indicated as such. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Webkinz Jr. "Bebop & the Beats" music Review

These days, whenever my kids log on to Webkinz or Webkinz Jr., the first thing they do is look around for a Webkinz music video to watch. They're short music videos featuring Webkinz (or Webkinz Jr.) characters scampering and playing across the screen, with a grownup singing a catchy little tune. I well remember how crazy I was about music videos in the 80's, but the music videos these days are pretty explicit (both the lyrics and the visuals), so I'm happy they are getting their fill of music videos on such an innocent venue as Webkinz!

I recently had the good fortune of hosting a Webkinz Jr. party courtesy of MomSelect (check out my party post!), and one of the items I was given for our party guests was a Webkinz Jr. cd. It's a collection of 8 catchy songs, each with a preschool theme (abc's, colors, counting, opposites, shapes, friends, jumping and dancing), sung by the Webkinz Jr. band , Bebop & the Beats. They sound a lot like the music in the videos that my kids watch on Webkinz World, which I suppose is why they really enjoy this cd.

Your child can listen to these songs on Webkinz Jr. by logging on to their account and "turning on" (or to be precise, clicking on) the tv in their virtual pet's playroom. If your child doesn't have a Webkinz Jr. account, he or she can watch their music videos on the Ganz Videos Webkinz YouTube channel -- they're all there, exactly as they appear on Webkinz Jr.

I don't think the cd is available for sale, but you can enter my Webkinz Jr. giveaway for a chance to win one of these fun cd's for your child. If you leave a comment on this post, you'll even get an extra entry!

Disclosure: I received a sample cd from MomSelect and Ganz, but was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Product information is provided by the featured company/product and is clearly indicated as such. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Enjoying the Outdoors with Coleman

How do you top a summer vacation spent exploring the old capitals of Europe, with their classic architecture and cosmopolitan flair? Why, get back to nature, of course! We blew our budget with our trips around the UK and Europe, so for the rest of this year we'll be exploring our back yard (as in our back yard "back yard", and our local area "back yard"). Staycations are easy on the budget, easy to prepare for -- and best of all, they're wicked fun!

I can't wait to do our annual family campout, especially now that Coleman has sent us an assortment of equipment -- coolers, water jugs, tent, sleeping bag, air mattress and lantern, to be precise -- to help us enjoy our time in the outdoors even more.

That's right, Coleman, the brand I've been using since I was in elementary school. I actually got quite a reputation for faithfully lugging my 1-gallon Coleman plastic jug every single day (I was a popular source of hydration for all my friends!). maybe it was the popularity, maybe it was the ice-cold water I enjoyed all day, but I've been a Coleman fan ever since. The first camping equipment I bought as an adult was a Coleman sleeping bag. My kids all have Coleman sleeping bags (Alfie doesn't have one; we share mine. But now that Coleman has sent us a sleeping bag, he's got his own). We have a Coleman cooler, camping stove, lantern and tent. We buy Coleman fuel for our lamp and grill. I can't even say Camping Equipment without thinking Coleman. Yeah, I guess you could say we're a Coleman family. I am so psyched.

Stay tuned for more posts on how we're using our new Coleman equipment to have some family fun in the great outdoors!

Disclosure: I received an assortment of product samples from Coleman, but was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Product information is provided by the featured company/product and is clearly indicated as such. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Energizer Keep Going Goodies

I feel really lucky to have been chosen as Energizer's Keep Going Blogger® for San Francisco. As if sponsoring my participation fee in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® weren't enough, Energizer also sent me a gigantic gift basket full of Energizer® goodies!

I just had to take a photo of the explosion of pink that has invaded our guest room. First and foremost is my new BFF, a pink plush Energizer Bunny®, who'll be keeping me company on my 3-day adventure this October. I'll be taking quite a lot of pink stuff with me -- they gave me a pink bracelet, pink water bottle, pink toiletry case, pink "Energizer Keep Going Blogger®" bandanna and three pink "Energizer Keep Going Blogger®" tshirts.

To record my thoughts and memories during the journey, I've got a new journal and Flip video camera, and to make sure I can blog and tweet throughout the event, I've got a ton of Energizer batteries and some great Energizer chargers. The laptop charger came in really handy during the first day of school -- I was manning our PTA's eScrip table, and had my laptop available for parents who wanted to sign up on the spot. My laptop battery only lasts about 90 minutes, and with no power outlet in sight, that extra Energizer laptop battery was a lifesaver. And I love my new Energizer charger kit because it can charge practically any electronic device -- my iPod, my cellphone, Alfie's cellphone, The Pea's iPod, The Pea's MP3 player, the boys' videogames, you name it. It even comes with a car charger adapter so we can take it with us on road trips.

If only Energizer could come up with a battery that could hook up to humans to make sure I can finish that 60-mile walk. Until then, I'll just have to rely on good shoes, proper nutrition, and regular training. On second thought, nix that human battery idea, I'm happy with the rest of the stuff! Thanks, Energizer!

Disclosure: I received a product samples featured above, but was not paid to review them or give my opinions. Product information is provided by the featured company/product and is clearly indicated as such. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

Energizer is sponsoring my participation fee and fundraising requirement for this event, but I would love to be able to raise more for breast cancer. Please help me reach my goal of $1000! Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated. You can click on the widget below to donate to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Help me reach my goal for the Susan G. Komen San Francisco Bay Area 3-Day for the Cure!

Word World's "Build A Word" iPhone app Giveaway

I was recently invited to review WordWorld’s new “Build a Word” iPhone app, but I don't own an iPhone, so once again I'm giving the game code away to one lucky Bonggamom Finds reader. The WordWorld show on PBS is so adorable, with animals literally built out of words, and I'll bet my kids would love it. Man, I really need an iPhone. Or better yet, WordWorld needs to port this app to other platforms. Hey guys, when are you making an Android version?!

Win a WordWorld "Build a Word" app for the iPhone

Here's more information about the game:
WordWorld, a three time Emmy Award-winning, multi-media franchise, helps children learn English and develop key literacy skills. It is an innovation that is partially funded by the U.S. Department of Education and has been demonstrated by rigorous scientifically-based testing to improve children’s early literacy skills, including: print awareness, letter knowledge and comprehension. WordWorld is just as it sounds: A magical world made of words where fun rules the day.

With the WordWorld “Build a Word” app, children can shake a “Word Builder” and watch letters float across the phone screen. They can then place letters in an outline provided to build words one letter at a time. By pushing the letters of each word together, words magically "morph" into WordFriends! DOG, DUCK, PIG, ANT, FROG, SHEEP, BUG, COW, CAT, and BEE come to life, encouraging children to build early literacy skills. Learning to read has never been this much fun!

Required Entry
Leave a comment on this post and tell me your kids' favorite character on WordWorld. This entry must be completed before extra entries qualify.

Bubble Fun with Little Kids

School may be in session, but you wouldn't think that summer was gone from the way we're still wearing tank tops and shorts and sandals. The dry, hot, Indian Summer in Northern California has begun, and since we had mild summer weather, it actually feels more like summer now that it did all summer! The umbrellas are still out in our back yard, and we're still doing some water play out on the driveway, and there's still plenty of time for us to enjoy the assortment of Little Kids bubble toys that I was given at the beginning of the summer. Here's a description of the items we were sent to review, and what I thought of them:

Little Kids® Original No-Spill® Bubble Tumbler® (ARV: $5)
Special patented design eliminates accidental bubble spills and keeps liquid inside for more bubble fun! Multiple award winner including – Oppenheim Toy Portfolio’s Gold Seal, Parent’s Choice Classic, and National Parenting Publication Gold Award! Styles include fairies and cars! Includes wand and 4 oz. of Little Kids No Stain, No Dye, Non-Toxic premium bubble liquid.
Frankly, the original is still the best, and I've always been a fan of the no-spill design. It's easy to load up with bubble liquid and since it's refillable, you can buy the big valu-pak of bubble liquid so your child can enjoy his bubbles for a long, long time -- and you don't have to worry too much about big bubble spills.

Little Kids® Original No-Spill® Mini Bubble Bucket® (ARV: $7)
Just like the original full sized No-Spill Big Bubble Bucket, the Mini Bucket will not spill its bubble liquid when tipped, dropped or turned upside down. The toy features three wands, making it a perfect toy for one, two or even three children to enjoy. The fold-down handle is perfect for play dates on the go. Includes 4 oz. of Little Kids No Stain, No Dye, Non-Toxic bubble liquid. I love the fact that this toy has three wands -- not because 3 kids can share, because I don't think the mini bucket is actually big enough for kids to share easily -- but because you get 2 extra wands in case one gets lost or broken! The handle is so cute, and it's so small and light, which makes it easy for little hands to carry their bucket around with them. Best of all, it's so inexpensive that you can afford to buy one for each of your kids!

Bubble Friends (ARV: $20)
Create tons of big bubbles and hear Sally the cow "MOO"! It's easy, pull back on the cow's head to start the bubbles and sound! Includes 4 oz. of Little Kids No Stain, No Dye, Non-Toxic premium bubble liquid. Requires 3 "AA" batteries. (Sold Separately.)
I gave this to my 20-month old nephew and he was absolutely delighted with it. He kept prying the cow's head open and saying, "Moo, moo", and whenever the bubbles came out of the cow's mouth, he laughed and tried to chase down the bubbles. It's sturdy and high-quality and funny and cute and just perfect for toddlers!

Dora the Explorer Big Bubble Wand (ARV: $5)
Simply wave this flower-shaped wand in the air to create big bubbles! A dip tray and 4 oz. of Nickelodeon premium bubble liquid is included. This is a really cute bubble wand, and I love the convenience of the take-apart handle, which makes it easy to store. Parents of Dora fans, beware, though -- the "Dora" part is just packaging, and the neither dip tray, wand nor bubble liquid have Dora on them. Still, it's packaged very nicely, and would make a great addition to a Dora present pack or a Dory birthday party goody bag.

Go Diego Go Adventure Wand (ARV: $4)
Adventure wands combine three different colored and shaped bubble wands that are connected to and stored into the handle of the Adventure wand. The colors and shapes of the wands correspond to the character and nature of the show. Each Adventure Bubble Wand comes with 2 ounces of Nickelodeon premium bubble solution. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Easy to hold wand for little hands, with three little blowers attached. Dip tray included! This is another nice addition to a themed goody bag. The leaf and flower bubble wands don't work very well, but the circular one works just fine. A great inexpensive present for Diego fans.

Little Kids Bubble Light (ARV: $8)
Combines the pre-schooler's love of flashlights with bubble blowing! Dip the wand into the dipping tray and press the button for tons of illuminated bubbles! Includes a dipping tray and 4 oz. of Little Kids No Stain, No Dye, Non-Toxic premium bubble liquid. Requires 3 "AAA" batteries. (Sold Separately.) 3+I thought this one was a lot of fun because of the added component of the light (this is most fun just when it's beginning to get dark, so you can actually see the stream of light illuminating the bubbles) but I'm not a big fan of having to constantly dip the bubble light into the dip tray in order to get lots of bubbles. Still, I like the chunky, toddler-friendly light; it feels nice and heavy and sturdy, like it might actually still work after your toddler drops it once!

No Spill Spongebob Squarepants Bubble Boat Machine (ARV: $15)
No Spill Spongebob Squarepants Bubble Boat Machine blows up yo 3000 bubbles a minute. Includes 4 Fl. Oz of Deluxe Bubble Liquid. Bubble liquid contains no dyes and is non-toxic. Toy does not float and will not work in water. Requires 2 "AA" Batteries (not included). Ages 3+ Even without the bubbles this is a great toy! Spongebob looks so cute in his boat, and he's just begging for a little boy to push him all around the floor! The toy is well-built and Spongebob actually looks like Spongebob, which is more than I can say for some other plastic figurines. The bubble machine works reliably and blows a nice stream of bubbles -- the only thing that would make it better would be if kids could take this into the tub and still have the bubble motor working afterwards :)

Overall, these are great, inexpensive ways for your child to have some outdoor fun. The licensed-character toys are always a great hit because kids know and love these characters (Hmm..... Dora bubble-maker? Or ordinary pink bubble-maker? Which one do you think your kid would choose??) Like most bubble toys, they're not the sturdiest things in the world -- expect them to last a season, or two (if you're the type who's meticulous about cleaning and putting them away) at the most, but they're inexpensive enough to buy year after year. And they make great party favors!

Disclosure: I received an assortment of product samples from Little Kids, but was not paid to review the product or give my opinions. Product information is provided by the featured company/product and is clearly indicated as such. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.

YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait Review and Giveaway

One of the best things about vacationing in the UK this summer was the quantity and quality of the yogurt available in the supermarkets there. We're HUGE yogurt fans, so we were blown away by the variety there, not just the wide range of flavors, but the number of yogurt parfait combinations. Yogurt with granola, yogurt with chocolate shavings, yogurt with cereal puffs, all packaged and ready to eat.... yum! It seems like yogurt is not just a breakfast food in the English culture; people regularly have yogurt for snacks and dessert. Not that the US is too far behind; we do have yogurt parfaits at McDonald's, Einsteins and other restaurants, but you don't see too many in the grocery. Well, the folks at Breyers must have read my mind, because not two weeks after I got back, I received an invitation to try out their new YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait! Read below to see what I thought of it... The Basics The new Breyers YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait is a layered fruit, yogurt and parfait that's available in local grocery stores. They sell in packs of 4 for $2.89. Here's more information about Breyers' latest yogurt product: Treat yourself to our latest yogurt creation that's so wonderfully delicious it's hard to believe it's good for you too! Breyers® YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait™ is layers of delightful enjoyment...real fruit pieces tucked under a blanket of creamy vanilla yogurt, plus yummy granola you mix in for the ideal crunch! Perfect as a healthy snack or dessert, YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait™ is available in three classic fruit flavors: strawberry, blueberry and peach. Scrumptious, Healthy, Perfect! The Bongga Mmmm.... if I close my eyes while I'm eating this, it's easy to imagine that I'm back at the Asda Supermarket in Swindon, UK. The light, not-too-sweet peachy taste and crunchy granola are great! I love that it's so convenient -- you don't have to go to a restaurant to get it, just pick it up at the yogurt section in your grocery -- and since it's only 120 calories, it's a delicious and healthy treat. The kids love it too, and I predict we'll be enjoying YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait for dessert again really soon! The Blah The foil seal that separates the granola from the yogurt is difficult to remove; if you're not careful, you'll get granola crumbs flying all over the table. And surprise, surprise, we all loved it so much that everyone felt that each yogurt parfait cup should be bigger! Because we just can't get enough of it... The Bottom Line YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait is delicious and healthy and a great treat for snack or dessert. Try YoCrunch® Fruit Parfait for yourself Breyer's is offering 10 coupons for one FREE YoCrunch Fruit Parfait to 10 lucky Bonggamom Finds readers! If you'd like to try this yummy yogurt parfait for yourself (US addresses only), leave a comment on this post with your email address. If there are more than 10 entries on September 20, 2010, I'll draw 10 winners using the random.org random number picker. Good luck!

Clif Kid Review and Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago we were invited by LUNA and CLIF Kid bars to a Mommy and Me Nutrition Event at San Francisco's Zeum museum. We had never been to Zeum before and we had a fabulous time at all their cool exhibits (and that's the subject of a whole new post!) , but what made the event memorable was everything the kids got to learn about organic foods, healthy snacking, and sustainable living. Alfie and I have been making a big push away from meat and toward vegetables as the main focus of our meals, so this event could not have come at a better time.

First, some experts talked to the kids about the dangers of chemicals and pesticides in the foods we eat and the containers we use. They went through a fun exercise of choosing healthy, safe foods and putting them in a shopping basket. Even though it was geared to kids, I learned a lot too (did you know that some canned food contains BPA?).

Next, the kids got to decorate some cute bento boxes while a nutrition expert spoke to us about making the right food choices for ourselves and our kids. She gave some great ideas for snacks and lunches that kids would love. Now, why didn't I think of packing hummus and pita and carrots? Maybe it's because I've never had anything to pack it in. Now that we have these bento boxes, I don't have an excuse.

The smash hit of the day was our session with Gardener Benjamin, who showed the kids all the yummy vegetables that they could grow themselves. They got to play some fun veggie guessing games, smell some heavenly basil leaves, and taste some heavenly tomatoes.

Even better, Benjamin had an assortment of plants and giant pots so each kid could plant his own mini vegetable garden and take it home! I nearly broke my back and arms dragging/carrying three huge, heavy pots to the parking garage (3 blocks away), but it was worth it to have each kid so proud of having their own onions, lettuce, and basil. I love seeing them so motivated to take charge of their own health! I am notorious for my black thumb, but the kids have been really good about watering their pots, so I'm hopeful we'll be able to harvest some great veggies soon.

We all went home a little happier, a little healthier and little smarter. The Pea has turned into our BPA watchdog, and all the kids are reading nutrition labels and watching their refined sugar intake. I'm putting those bento boxes to good use to pack the kids' lunches, and we've already gone through the assortment of Clif Kid and Luna products we were sent home with. Fortunately, not long after this event I was sent even more Clif Kid products to review! Keep reading below to see what we think of Clif Kid products, and enter to win some of your own....

The Basics

Organic Twisted Fruit is an all-natural tangy fruit snack. Kids love eating Organic Twisted Fruit because of its cool, easy-to-eat rope shape and its fun rush of flavor. And parents like them because each one is equivalent of one whole serving of fruit and is a good source of vitamin C.

Nationwide, Organic ZBaR is the number one kid's snack bar. ZBaRs are a flavor favorite of kids and are made from all natural ingredients including rolled oats, blueberries, chocolate chips and more. What Parents like about the ZBaR is its nutrition value: they include the right blend of protein, carbohydrates and fiber that work together to balance kids' energy levels without crashing. ZBaRs are basically snack bars modeled after what parents would bake at home for their kids, if they had time of course.

The Bongga
The italics say it all. CLIF Kids products taste great and they're made with healthy ingredients. 'Nuff said.

Actually, I can't keep my mouth shut about how good they are, so I'll say more.

The Twisted Fruit ropes are a smash hit with my kids. They adore the chewy texture and sour, tangy taste -- it's no surprise to me that their favorite flavor is Sour Apple. Unlike some of the natural fruit leathers I buy, Twisted Fruit seems to have a "cool" factor with the kids -- they're on par with those gummy "fruit" pieces in little pouches. And the ZBaRs have always been favorites at our house. I like them because they're just the right size for kids and they're made with good ingredients, and the kids love how they taste!

The Blah
ZBaRs are pretty much in every major grocery store now, but I can't say the same about the Twisted Fruit. I haven't had much luck finding it at Safeway (I lucked out at REI, and bought enough to last my kids through a month of snacks. Or less, if their friends come over).

The Bottom Line
CLIF Kids Organic Twisted Fruit and Organic ZBaRs are a great choice for kids' lunchboxes because they're all natural, easy to pack, and delicious.
