Mosaic: How to capture your vacation in 20 photos
Monday, September 09, 2013
I've been suffering from a severe case of vacation fever. A couple of weeks ago we visited Universal Studios in Orlando, and had the time of our lives. 3Po and Jammy actually shed tears as we left for the airport on our last day. It was such a great vacation, and we can't stop reliving all the best moments: "Remember when we rode the Dragon Challenge four times in a row?"... "Remember that awesome apple pie?"..."No, remember the butterbeer!".
Naturally, we've preserved the best of our memories on photos. We took almost a thousand on this 5-day vacation alone! Alfie is a Top-20 kind of guy, so having an app like Mosaic is a godsend. Mosaic takes your top 20 photos on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch and turns them into a beautiful photo book.
The best part about Mosaic is how simple it is. You can literally create a photo book in 5 seconds. Just choose 20 photos in the order you want them to appear on your book, click "Create Photo Book", type in your name, address and payment info, and you're done.
To keep things simple, customization is minimal:
* You can determine the order in which the photos appear.
* You can choose whether your photos appear on a white or black background.
* You can (sort of) choose which photos appear on the photo collage cover page (it's a randomized process but there is a "reshuffle" button if you don't like the photos that appear).
* You get one photo per page, no editing or cropping or captions.
It sounds restrictive, but it's meant to keep things simple. The restrictions didn't bother me because I worked around them. I just edited the photo itself: cropping to a square (the finished book is 7x7 so a square photo maximizes the page usage), adding text directly to the photo, and combining multiple photos into a photo collage.
As promised, the photo book arrived 4 or 5 business days after I ordered it. The resultig 7x7 book is absolutely beautiful. From the decorative box to the hardbound linen cover to the matte pages, the Mosaic photo book screams understated elegance . That's an oxymoron, isn't it; maybe whispers would be a better term.
But I do want to scream my delight at how this photo book turned out. Definitely give Mosaic a try. There's no easier, prettier way to capture memories of an amazing summer trip.
