Hampton Inn and Suites -- perfect for families, year-round
Monday, September 05, 2011
The last time we stayed at the Hampton Inn Truckee/Tahoe, it was in the midst of a snowstorm. We stumbled into the hotel at 9PM, exhausted after hours of driving and skiing, and although we were certainly grateful for the ultra-comfy beds to rest our weary heads on, as well as the super-yummy breakfast the morning after, we really didn't have much time to fully appreciate the inn's amenities and comforts.
We've just arrived from a Labor Day weekend trip to Reno and Tahoe, and for one of those nights we returned to the Hampton Inn Truckee/Tahoe to enjoy everything their property had to offer. Our trip could not have been more different from the last time we were there -- we wore swimsuits instead of snowsuits and spent our time swimming instead of skiing -- but we experienced the same luxury surroundings, great service, friendly staff and yummy breakfast as we did the first time!

The Bongga
Everything that we loved about the Hampton Inn Truckee/Tahoe the first time we visited, we love even more on our second visit. I won't go over them again -- the convenient location, the beautiful property, the helpful staff, the delicious hot breakfast -- since you can read all about it in my first Hampton review.
This time around, we got to spend a lot more time at the inn, so we were really able to appreciate everything they had to offer. We finally got the opportunity to enjoy the pool area, and the kids had the time of their lives splashing in the swimming pool. The pool, umbrellas, chairs and tables were all very clean and well-maintained.
The pool was just a tad too cold for me, so I was more than happy to relax and unwind in the jacuzzi. The water temperature was nice and hot, and the bubble jets gave my aching muscles a nice, soothing massage. It was such a treat to be able to lean back and see the beautiful blue sky.
Swimming always seems to leave the kids with a huge appetite, and they eagerly scarfed down the white chocolate-chip cookies the staff offered us on our way back up to our room. It would have been better if they were warm, but they were delicious all the same.
Everyone took turns rinsing off in the huge bathroom tub; the shower gel and other toiletries were nice little luxurious touches that were the perfect way to pamper my skin after a long day in the sun (and if you ever run out and need more, all you have to do is ask).
Once again, 3Po and Jammy volunteered to sleep on the sofabed. So many sofabeds are lumpy and uncomfortable, so most of the time we have to argue about who gets the sofabed, but not here. It's really comfortable; thank goodness, there's no hard steel bar digging into your back!
We even had time to play some games in the lobby and watch tv in our room. There truly was no better place to relax, and I'm sure the kids would have been happy to spend the whole day chilling out at the Hampton Inn. I guess we'll just have to come back to the Hampton Inn at Truckee/Tahoe and enjoy it all over again.
The Blah
Since we did spend more time on-site during this visit, I also noticed a few things that I didn't notice before: the rather loud air-conditioning unit that kept coming on and waking me up in the night, the ultra-slow elevator (there are only 3 floors, so you're better off taking the stairs!), the lack of towels in the fitness room at 8:00 in the morning. But these are minor inconveniences (if I had asked the front desk, I'm sure they would have gotten me towels in a flash) compared to the great overall experience.
The Bottom Line
Once again, staying at the Hampton Inn Truckee/Tahoe was one of the highlights of our recent Labor Day weekend, and I would highly recommend it to any other travelers (single, couples, families, big groups) looking for a place to stay in the area, year round!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary 2-night stay at the Hampton property of my choice to facilitate my review (we stayed one night in March and the second night over the Labor Day weekend).
