When I first heard Disney was coming out with a movie called "Gnomeo and Juliet", I knew we'd be watching it. I think garden gnomes are hideous and tacky, and the thought of using them as the main characters of Shakespeare's classic love story is absolutely brilliant. Disney always does the cleverest animated movies, with bits of humor for grownups as well as kids, so I'm sure we're going to enjoy it. They're even using voices of some of my favorite British actors -- James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Matt Lucas, Julie Walters, Ozzy Osbourne (okay, Ozzy is not exactly an actor, but he's a such a character, and I'm dying to see how Disney depicts him as a gnome) -- for that authentic Shakespearean quality :)
Here's the synopsis:
The greatest love story ever told, starring...garden gnomes? In the upcoming “Gnomeo & Juliet,” Shakespeare's revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (“Shrek 2”) and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find lasting happiness?
