It's the Last Day of Christmas -- Happy Three Kings Day to everyone! I've had a wonderful 12 Days of Christmas on Bonggamom Finds, and I've enjoyed reading all the comments on each of the giveaways. Our final winner of the 12 Days of Christmas giveaway series will receive a copy of Ralphina, the Roly-Poly(value $24.95). No, not Rolie Polie Olie, this is a story about another kind of Roly Poly my kids love -- the real kind.
Did you know that roly-poly bugs are part of the crustacean family? Or that they breathe through gills? These are just some of the fun roly-poly facts I learned when I read Ralphina, The Roly-Poly, a charmingly illustrated book by artist and former teacher Claudia Chandler. This is the first book I've seen that stars roly-poly bugs, (it's about time, given that every kid I know is fascinated with the little buggers). Other than the strange choice of character's name (Ralphina?), we all enjoyed the cute, simple story of a little roly-poly bug who wants to become friends with a little boy.

My son's current favorite is the ladybug (which I learned through his Alphabet Beetle Book is also a type of beetle). Looks like a great book- we have tons of roly polies in our front yard.
