I received products for review and giveaway
Great news: I'm excited to be joining the WordLock Parenting Council! For the next three months I'll be joining other bloggers in sharing our thoughts about various family-friendly topics, and giving away some great WordLock goodies. Since May is Bike Safety Month, I'm talking about biking as a family and the rules we follow to make sure everyone has a safe and happy ride.
One of the best things about living in California is getting to ride bikes any time of the year. The Pea rides her bike to school every day, and Alfie rides a motorcycle to work every day! Our neighborhood has wide, safe streets and the inclines are next to nothing, so biking takes hardly any effort at all.
We started biking with The Pea before she could walk, thanks to our handy-dandy bike seat. When the twins came along, we bought a 2-seater trailer and kept on biking. As they grew older, we graduated to trail-a-bikes and bikes with training wheels.
3Po and Jammy outgrew their training wheels very early, at age 3, so their little legs weren't really long or strong enough to bike big distances by themselves, so for a while our bike outings were limited to the around-the-neighborhood variety. That didn't make them any less enjoyable, especially when we found some gigantic puddles in the park!
Nowadays, The Pea is on a full-sized bike and the boys are on 16" wheels, so we can bike much farther. We can bike to the park, the library, the community pool, the farmer's market, to friends' houses and on longer bike rides at nature parks.
With the fun of riding bikes comes a few responsibilities. Here are some rules we follow:
* Everyone in the family wears bike helmets, whether they're a biker or a passenger in a bike seat or trailer.
* We stick to bike paths whenever possible.
* We stop at stop signs and signal when we turn.
* We watch for pedestrians, parked cars, cars backing out of driveways and cars on the road.
* We lock our bikes securely to bike racks at our destination.
Such a small price to pay to keep us safe and happy on our bikes. May is Bike Safety Month and May 9 is Ride Your Bike to Work Day -- so what are you waiting for? Strap on your helmet, hop on your bike and have a great ride!
Win a pair of WordLock Bike Locks
One lucky Bonggamom Finds reader will win a pair of WordLock bike locks! These are great locks with sturdy cables and word-based combinations instead of number combinations. My kids love the WordLock bike locks that I reviewed last year, and they never have a problem using them because it's so easy to remember their passwords, even when they haven't used their bikes in a long time. You'll love them too!
