Nominate a Pink Power Mom

Do you know someone who has battled, or is battling breast cancer with strength and dignity?  There's still time to nominate her as a Pink Power Mom!

Think globally, act locally: this is the concept behind the Pink Power Mom program, which is now accepting nominations for its 2012 contest to select eight deserving moms in local communities throughout the U.S. The program, part of the Kids II Foundation, honors mothers who are breast cancer survivors and powerful role models in their community. The Kids II Foundation was created by the company to make a difference in the lives of children and families in the areas in which employees work and live. Its largest and most impactful initiative is the Pink Power Mom program.

Pink Power Moms are inspirations to their families, friends and others battling breast cancer because of their resilient spirit and perseverance in the face of adversity. Every year, Kids II celebrates eight mothers who have battled breast cancer and dedicated themselves to helping others in the fight.

Friends and families are invited to nominate a mother who has been an inspiration throughout her battle with cancer. This year marks the first time the program will be open to self-nominations from those who believe they should be a Pink Power Mom.

Submissions are now open and will be accepted through Oct. 31, 2012. To nominate a mom or yourself, go to www.pinkpowermom.com.

Each of the eight women selected as Pink Power Mom will receive $5,000 for the breast cancer charity of her choice as well as a weekend of pampering, education and luxurious gifts. Each mom will also receive a legacy donation of $1,000 each year for the next four years.

Energizer supports breast cancer research all year, every year

Energizer's commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness is strong, consistent and long-lasting:  just like their batteries!  They have donated over $3 million since 2005, and have partnered with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation since 2007.  This year they donated $225,000.  I will be forever grateful to Energizer for sponsoring me in the 2010 3-Day for the Cure in San Francisco and giving me the experience of a lifetime! In fact, my experiences during that event and the people I met there are what inspired me to start blogging for Breast Cancer Awareness in October.  So thank you, Energizer, for helping me see the world through rose-colored glasses!

(BTW the photo above is one taken at Kara's display case in their store.  I have no idea who Fernando or Greg are, but I'm sure happy they love my boobs enough to display this message on every other Pink Friday cupcake!)

Make a Difference with Freschetta

A couple of days ago, I posted about ways that an individual can help in the fight to end breast cancer.  It might seem like it's beyond any one person to make a difference, but there ARE ways you can help! Here are 3 ways Freschetta Pizza is giving everyone to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer:

Share a Story
Have you, or someone you know, demonstrated THE STRENGTH OF 1™ in the battle against breast cancer? If so, share the story of how they are making a difference. Freschetta pizza will make a donation to the charity of the winners' choice.

Take the Pledge
Pledge to make a difference today and get a coupon for $1 off your next FRESCHETTA® pizza.

Tweet the Message
Between October 1 and October 8, spread the word to help The Strength of 1™ initiative to make a difference. Change your Twitter profile photo to The Strength of 1™ badge, and tweet @Freschetta with hashtag #Strengthof1 and tell them how you would use $500 to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.  You could win $500 - and a matching donation to Bright Pink® in your name.

For more information, and to get started, visit Freschetta's Strength of 1 Facebook app.

Now through the end of October, 2012, the makers of Freschetta® pizza are helping to promote breast cancer awareness through their new The Strength of 1™ campaign, which includes sponsoring Bright Pink, the only national non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support to high-risk individuals. The mission of this The Strength of 1™ initiative is to inspire everyone to realize they can make a difference in some way in the fight against breast cancer.

Pink Pumpkins for Breast Cancer

Every October I decorate my home with pumpkins to celebrate Halloween, and every October I feature pink products on my blogs in commemoration of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- so why not combine the two?  Did you know that there's such a thing as a pink pumpkin? Yup, and it's making its debut just in time!

The Pink Pumpkin Patch is promoting a natural pink-skinned pumpkin, which is debuting all across the country this October just in time for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

These pink pumpkins are part of the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation’s national campaign, “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch – Let’s Unite Against Breast Cancer.” The campaign is designed to encourage everyone to join the fight against breast cancer by placing pink pumpkins on their porches and in their homes as part of their annual Halloween and fall dĆ©cor.

In support of “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch,” the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation has partnered with pumpkin farm owners and growers across the country who have agreed to $.25 per pumpkin to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation. Funds will then be donated to breast cancer research organizations.

For more information, please visit www.pinkpumpkinpatch.org or www.facebook.com/pinkpumpkinpatch.

Pink Ribbon Cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery

Anyone who loves cupcakes has Magnolia Bakery to thank; they are credited with starting the cupcake craze in the 1990's. I wish they had one nearby; I tried their vanilla and red velvet cupcakes the last time I was in Manhattan, and they are delicious.

Now there's even more reason to envy New Yorkers, Chicagoans, Angelenos and Dubai-ers (?) -- customers at these Magnolia Bakery locations can buy their Pink Ribbon Cupcakes and feel good knowing that Magnolia Bakery is donating 50 cents to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for every cupcake sold. Now that's sweet news indeed.

Pink is Courage from Forever 21

Why has it taken me so long to discover Forever 21'st Breast Cancer Awareness product line? They have an array of incredibly cute products, from pajamas to umbrellas to dresses -- or should I say, had. Their Pink is Courage Lookbook shows coats, makeup brushes, tees, jeans, even a guy's shirt, but the only things for sale are some beauty products, pajamas and a tshirt in plus size. Darnit! Fortunately, these products will be available until September 2012, so hopefully they'll restock the other items. And don't forget, 10 % of the sales price of products in the Pink is Courage line will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Hanes Virtual Comfort Packages

Here's an easy way to earn some money for breast cancer research. Hanes has created a new Facebook app that lets you send a virtual comfort package to your family and friends. For each new Comfort Package you create and send, Hanes will donate $1 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., up to $25,000.
You can send a free virtual Comfort Package from the Pink tab on the Hanes Facebook page. The Comfort Package is fully customizable with photos, videos, recipes, T-shirt designs, music and messages.
I normally don't send virtual presents to people on Facebook, but I'm making an exception for this one. I sent a care package to my aunt in the Philippines. Some years ago she had a double mastectomy for breast cancer. She probably doesn't want to be reminded of those days, but hey, I haven't said hi to her in a long time, and she's one of my favorite aunts, so I sent the package. It's a fun little way to let your loved ones know you're thinking of them, and an easy way to help out.

Yummie Tummie for Breast Cancer

Breast cancer awareness doesn't always have to come in the color pink. This month, my favorite shapewear brand Yummie Tummie is donating 30% of October sales of their flesh-colored Lavonne Bustless Slip to the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) initiative. Proceeds from worldwide FTBC campaigns helps fun programs that provide access to reliable resources, breast health education, innovative information, and health care. Thirty percent of sales is a humongous amount compared to the 5, 10 and 20% I've seen from other products, so if you're
thinking about buying a Lavonne slip, buy it in October.

Pink Ribbon UGGs

I don't own a pair of UGGs; they're expensive enough that I can find a number of excuses not to buy them: they'd make my feet sweat, they'll look awful on my huge feet, they might be so comfy that I'll end up wearing them all winter and forgo all fashion sense.

But these new Pink Ribbon UGGs might be enough to make me open up my pocketbook and splurge on a pair. The chestnut ones have a small pink ribbon on one side, as do the pink ones. I'm not so keen on the pink boots, but I'd consider buying the Ainsley slippers.

The Pink Ribbon UGGs are available exclusively through The Walking Shop, which also has exclusive Pink Ribbon items from Dansko, ECCO, Aetrex and ABEO. Sales of these products will support national and local charities in the fight against breast cancer and other women’s cancers through their Walking For Hope program.

NOVICA's Pink Ribbon Collection

When you buy a product from online retailer Novica.com, you're not only getting a beautiful work of art (I can vouch for their craftsmanship and design -- check out the beautiful necklace from NOVICA they sent me last year!). You're also helping skilled artisans from third-world countries.

This month, there's an added bonus -- 10% of October sales from Novica's Pink Ribbon Collection will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I'm loving the hand-woven cotton scarf from Central America and the sweet pink cotton blouse from Thailand, but I'd take practically anything from that collection. Shopping for cute stuff never felt so good.
