Back to School with the Boys & Girls Club of America

School started this week, and for the first time ever, I had to purchase school supplies.  I made it all the way through 5th grade without having to buy even a pencil or a notebook, because we are lucky enough to live near an elementary school with a PTA that is dedicated and hardworking enough to organize enough fundraisers to keep the whole student body well supplied, as well as parents who are affluent enough to afford to donate.

I know that not every area is so lucky, and there are so many kids across the country who are starting school without the school supplies, the staff, or the enrichment programs, that help make their learning experience a success.  That's why afterschool programs like the Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) are so important.  They keep kids off the streets and give them a place to gather with friends and engage in activities that keep them motivated and prepared to succeed in school.

As parents and kids prepare for the new school year, the Boys & Girls Club of America needs your support more than ever -- and thanks to their partnership with two very generous companies, it's easier than ever for you to help:

Play the Supply Drive Game to donate supplies
GCA and Disney have launched a pop-quiz style game where supplies will be donated to BGCA for correct answers scored.

Round up at the register and donate your change
When you visit JC Penney in August, join jcp cares and round up your purchase at the register.  The extra amount will be donated to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs.

Visit the BGCA Back to School website for more information about the program, and to access some useful tips for kids and parents to prepare for the school year.  I tried playing the quiz, and it's super easy, they even give you a second chance in case you get your answers wrong!  What an easy way to help a child start the school year right!
