My do-over moment: the back yard

This is our back yard. It's lush.  It's green.  It's private. It's beautiful.  We've bordered our yard with pittisporum hedges, rosemary bushes, hydrangea bushes, and other colorful plants that look nice, smell nice, and attract hummingbirds.  Alfie has started growing tomatoes and cucumbers.  We have a nice green lawn for the kids to run on.

What you don't know is that our lawn is a mudpit. Underneath that lush, green grass is a layer of clay-like soil that's damp in the summer and downright sloshy in the winter. Whenever we walk on it, our feet get soaked!

It wasn't always this way.  Once upon a time, our lawn was dry, but ugly.  The grass was sparse, and most of the green was due to weeds.  So when we had our house redone seven years ago, we decided to returf the lawn completely.   Our mistake was hiring the same guy who paved our driveway to do our lawn.  He did a beautiful job with our driveway, but his specialty was concrete, not grass or soil -- as we soon found out.  Now our lawn doesn't drain properly!  The discount he gave us was small compared to the amount we'd have to pay to redo our lawn. If we ever get the chance for a do-over moment, we'd definitely leave it to the experts -- the right experts.  Since we don't have the budget for a do-over, for now at lease, we have to live with our mistake every time we walk on our lawn.

This do-over post was brought to you by The Frigidaire Gallery™Dishwasher, which gets dishes fully cleaned the first time, so there are no dish do-overs. Nearly half of adults admit to re-washing and/or re-drying dishes after the dishwasher cycle has been completed. To prevent dishwasher do-overs, Frigidaire® is stepping in with its new Gallery® Dishwasher featuring the OrbitCleanTM Wash Arm, ensuring dishes are cleaned right the first time.
