Giveaway: Make brushing fun with Buddy the T-Rex and Dinosaur Train

Did you know that February is National Children's Dental Health Month?  With all those sugary candies and chocolates in your child's classroom valentines, it's a good month to remember the importance of oral health and good brushing habits!  It can be difficult to get young children to brush their teeth, so my number one tip for new parents is to Make Brushing Fun.  Here are four suggestions I have for making brushing fun:

1) Give incentives such as star stickers or little toys when a child completes a week of brushing.
2) Sing a song while brushing teeth (remember, Happy Birthday sung twice equals the two-minute recommended time for brushing teeth!)
3) Read stories to kids about their favorite characters brushing their teeth or visiting the dentist.
4) Let kids choose their own toothbrush and toothpaste with their favorite characters (like the adorable Dinosaur Train tooth brushes below!) and fun flavors.

Speaking of Dinosaur Train, PBS Kids and The Jim Henson Company are experts on what kids love, so it's no wonder that many of their characters such as Sid the Science Kid and Dinosaur Train are helping kids develop good brushing habits.  In fact, everyone's favorite T-Rex, Buddy from Dinosaur Train, has some great oral health tips for young kids!  Team up with your child and follow these helpful tips for strong teeth and a healthy smile:

1. Twice a day: Brush your teeth when you wake up and before you go to bed.
2. Take your time: Brush your teeth for 2 minutes and be sure to include your tongue!
3. Be kind to your gums: Brush with a soft bristle toothbrush.
4. Get the hard to reach places: Floss your teeth at bedtime.
5. See your Dentist twice a year!

Here's a cute Dinosaur Train poster containing the tips above.  Download, print, and show the poster to your child to make sure those tips stay on his mind!
