Use Instagram photos or even videos to create personalized Mother's Day gifts from Cap That!

Mother's Day is coming up, and if you're looking for a present for the mom in your life, take it from a mom: we love personalized photo gifts!  You can even make life easy for yourself and create photo gifts using photos you already have on your social networks like Facebook and Instagram, with create-it-yourself innovator Cap That.  What's really unique about Cap That is that you can even use video footage to create a custom product!  That's right, you can upload your favorite video from your computer, or import a video from Facebook or Viddy, then capture an image from the video footage and use it to create a photo gift.  Suddenly the range of photo gifts you can make has expanded to include your baby blowing out the candles on his first birthday cake (or smashing his fist into it), or your little baseball player throwing his first pitch!

Cap That invited me to create a couple of photo gifts so I could see for myself how easy it is.  They have a good range of products, from laptop/iPad/Kindle/iPhone skins (or hard cases) to wall decals to greeting cards, shirts, mugs and more.   I decided to bling out my boring black laptop and create a custom laptop skin and to give my laptop a bit more personality.

It look me less than 5 minutes to create and order -- just upload a photo or video (or import it from Instagram, Facebook or Viddy) and choose your product.  You can get all fancy with graphics, text and photo filters if you want, but that's the nice thing about using Instagram photos, they're already filtered and prettified :)  You don't even need to create (yet another) online account, just enter shipping and payment information, then you're good to go.

The laptop skin and decal arrived in a sturdy cardboard envelope, each in its own plastic sleeve with more thick cardboard backing, so they wouldn't bend or wrinkle.  They were stuck to a peel-off paper backing with clear instructions on how to apply.

The laptop skin peels right off its paper backing sheet and sticks easily to the laptop surface.  It's quite sturdy; you can easily peel it back up to reposition it, and it won't lose any of its stickiness.  If you decide you'd rather go back to your boring old laptop cover (or replace it with a new decal), you can peel the skin off and it doesn't leave any sticky residue.

The little 4"x4" decal I ordered is made of the same stuff as the laptop skin, so it has all the same properties.  I had to cut the decal to fit my laptop, but the decal is quite sturdy, not whisper-thin, so you don't have to worry about tearing the decal.

I love having a unique, cool-looking laptop, and I love having photos of my kids on my laptop where I can drool over them every day :)
