Back to School with Ross Dress For Less (and a giveaway for you!)

The Pea is starting middle school this year, and you know what that means -- she needs a whole new wardrobe!   Not only has she outgrown most of her clothes, her school also has a dress code and I have to make sure that her wardrobe passes muster.  Fortunately, Ross Dress for Less is having their annual Back to School event, with savings of up to 60% off department store regular prices.  The great thing is, their store is filled with nationally advertised brands that you'd find in more expensive department stores, so our back-to-school budget can really go a long, long way.

Earlier this week, Ross Dress for Less sent me a $25 gift card and invited me to visit one of their stores to see how far that $25 could go.  Their Back to School store displays are front and center of the store, with all kinds of gear from backpacks to desk organizers to dorm linens and decor.  I headed straight to the junior's department, and it didn't take me long to find a ton of items guaranteed to send The Pea off to 6th grade in style.

She is totally into neon (oh, the irony:  the fashions that were cool when I was eleven are cool once again, now that my daughter is eleven!), so she loved this striped neon three-quarter sleeve top ($7.99).  It's a semi-sheer top that's meant to be worn with a tank top underneath, so I got her one in neon orange ($4.99).  You can just see it under the pink top, but since it conforms with her school's dress code (the strap has to be at least a 2-finger width), she fully intends to wear it on its own on hot days.

I love the tunic length of this racer-back top ($5.99), because she'll be able to wear it with shorts while it's hot, then wear it with jeggings and a cardigan when it gets colder.  I love the chunky pink and white stripes -- so nautical!

I didn't want to be left out of all the shopping fun -- and besides, I still had $6 left -- so I bought myself a tissue-thin grey cardigan for $4.99.  That's four tops I got from Ross Dress for Less with my $25 gift card, with a dollar to spare!

The only problem is, as soon as The Pea saw my new cardigan, she claimed it for herself.  I guess we'll be sharing this cardigan -- then again, on second thoughts, it's so inexpensive, I think I'm going back to Ross Dress for Less to get The Pea a cardigan of her own!
