The Aristocats: Disney Classics
Disney's animated movie The Aristocats came out in 1970, so it was still fairly new when I became old enough to watch it. And watch it, I did -- over and over and over again. My kids have not seen the movie, we recently reviewed The Aristocats: Disney Classics ebook for iOs, and now they want to rent the DVD from the library. I'm not surprise: I still love the story of how Duchess and her three kittens are taken from their sheltered lives, and it's fun to see how they learn groove with the grooviest of cats as they find their way back to their owner.
Younger children will enjoy the interactive learn-to-read modes: they can have the book read to them with narration, or they can read the book on their own, with or without highlighted words to help them out. All the while, they get to see the beautiful illustrations moving along to jazzy background music. In addition to the story, kids can also enjoy bonus activities such as coloring pages, interactive puzzles and a 1-octave piano for tapping tunes.
My favorite activity: trying to replicate Berlioz's "Scales and Arpeggios" piano piece! That has always been one of my favorite tunes (Do-Me-Sol-Do-Do-Sol-Me-Do, Every cultured music student knows, you must play your scales and your arpeggios, With the music ringing from your chest and not your nose.... When you do your scales and your arpeggios! See, I still remember the words!) and it was delightful to hear again. Playing with The Aristocats app certainly brings back some treasured childhood memories, and my hope is that it will give my kids the chance to make some memories of their own.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary download of the game to review. The views and opinions expressed here are my own.
