Count down to Halloween with Pottery Barn Kids

I love giving our home a Halloween makeover; starting October 1 I begin to cover our windows and walls with spiderwebs, ghosts and other fun Halloween decor. Over the years I've amassed a sizeable collection of Halloween decor -- candles, figurines, wall hangings, tablecloths, and anything that will get us and our visitors into the Halloween spirit.

Our latest decor item comes courtesy of Pottery Barn Kids -- they sent us a Halloween Countdown Calendar to make the suspense of waiting for October 31 easier and more fun. It's perfect for our back kitchen wall, where a poster of Napa Valley usually hangs:

In previous years, I've hung plastic Halloween posters, with ghouls or witches on them, the kind you can get at drugstores and dime stores. They're cheap-looking, and no matter how long they hang, you can never get the folds out! This calendar is much better. I love the whimsical, handmade, vintage look! It came with a hanging pole (we covered the nail in the wall with a little rubber bat) and it's made with heavy felt, so it hangs down nicely. You can also personalize it with your name at the bottom for an extra $7.

However, it's not just a great Halloween wall hanging; the Countdown Calendar has 31 little felt pockets sewn in so you can hide little toys and treats, just like an advent calendar. The pockets are pretty small, and you don't want to stretch the felt, so you won't be able to tuck in a king-sized chocolate bar -- but that's a good thing. I've placed little erasers and plastic spiders and rubber witch fingers and stickers, and my 3 kids are going to take turns retrieving the day's toy. The Oct. 31 pocket will have a small chocolate inside, and it will belong to ME.

The Pottery Barn Kids Halloween Countdown Calendar is on sale right now for $44.99. Remember, the sooner you get it, the more fun you'll have with it!

  1. love the countdown calendar, the younger kids get impatient and always ask how more day to the halloween! this is nice way to get a treat and they can easily countdown themselves.
