Mrs. Prindables Gourmet Apples

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to review Mrs. Prindable's Gourmet Caramel Apples, and after trying their Triple Chocolate Jumbo Caramel Apple the whole family was blown away by the size, presentation and taste. It's just the kind of present I would love to receive for the holidays, so it was like Christmas had come early when I was invited to try out Mrs. Prindable's Dark Chocolate Jumbo Caramel Apple. Check it out:

The Basics
Mrs. Prindables makes gourmet confections like caramel apples, chocolate-dipped pretzels and other handmade treats. You can purchase Mrs. Prindables products on their website, through their catalog, and during the holidays at high-end department stores like Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Saks 5th Avenue and Lord & Taylor.

Here's how Mrs. Prindables describes their products:
Unique gifts are hard to find. Mrs. Prindables Gourmet Caramel Apples are a delightful treat and make a perfect gift for any occasion. From holiday gifts to corporate gift baskets, our apples make people feel special. The sheer size and amazing taste of our caramel apples make a Mrs. Prindable's apple perfect for anniversary gifts, holiday gifts, and our apples are kosher certified, too. We use the best ingredients, the best apples, and prepare them by hand to make your gift perfect…and that’s a promise.

The Bongga
If you want over-the-top yumminess, you've got to try a Mrs. Prindable's Gourmet Caramel Apple! Here's a photo that will give you an idea of how truly extraordinary this Mrs. Prindable's apple is:
The small-sized apple is just perfect for packing in my kids' lunchboxes. They can finish it easily, with no waste or fuss. The medium-sized apple is about the size of the apples you find at most supermarkets; in fact I'd say it's already quite large, because you rarely see apples larger than that one. When you find a good one, it's nice and crisp and juicy, but it can taste pretty boring and blah if you're unlucky (which can happen quite a lot).

The Mrs. Prindable's apple is definitely in the Large category. I said it before and I'll say it again, it's as big as a newborn baby's head. If only I had a newborn baby handy to photograph with it! And no, it's not like those hollow Easter bunnies that fool you into thinking you're getting a chunk of chocolate. It's filled with yumminess throughout, from core to caramel to chocolate coating:

You'd think such a huge apple would be all mushy and bland, but it's actually crisper and juicier than the small apple in the previous photo! In fact, the apple was still tart and juicy after a couple of days. Yes, the five of us managed to control ourselves and eat only half of it (after all the Halloween candy, we wanted the kids to take it easy), then sealed it in a plastic container and put it in the fridge. I put the apple in with the cut side down, so even after two days, there was barely any browning! Finally, it wouldn't be a Mrs. Prindable's apple if it didn't taste great. We are a dark chocolate family, and I'm happy to say that the dark chocolate covering this apple was first-rate. Even my dad, who usually hates dark chocolate, loved it!

The Blah
Dare I say it? I actually thought this apple was covered in too much chocolate! The amount of chocolate overpowered the taste of the caramel so it tasted more like an apple dipped in chocolate. Even Alfie, who adores dark chocolate and can't get enough of it, agreed -- although he did say it wasn't a case of too much chocolate, it was more like not enough caramel. And looking back at the photos of our previous Mrs. Prindable's apple, I think his way of putting it is more accurate than mine.

The Bottom Line
A Mrs. Prindable's Gourmet Caramel Apple makes a wonderful present for the holidays! It's gigantic enough to impress your boss, pretty enough to charm a holiday party hostess, special enough to appease your relatives -- and delicious enough to gift to yourself.
