Special Occasion Fashions Activity Kit Review and Giveaway

The Pea and her friends are like little bag ladies: they love collecting scrap papers and fabric so they can create skirts and hats and bags and accessories for their little Zhu Zhu pets. In the past they've used regular school glue, but lately The Pea has cottoned on to the fact that she can make sturdier outfits when she uses needle and thread. I've taught her a basic running stitch, back stitch and outline stitch, and she's been working hard to sew up some skirts and capes. The Bongga
The Special Occasion Fashions Activity Kit is exactly that: bongga. It is huge! It comes with everything a child could possibly want (and a few things they never even thought of) to create their own fashions -- a dress form, tiny spools of fabric, trim, glitter glue, etc... The Pea loves the little sketchbook, which has pre-printed dress silhouettes on some of the pages to get her started. She can trim the white satin dress or create her own with the fabric.

The kit even comes with all the basic sewing necessities -- needles, pins, thread, pincushion, thimble and scissors -- so she can actually sew the dresses together. Younger kids could use fabric glue and still enjoy the kit without doing any sewing, but I like the sewing aspect because it makes for some challenging projects for The Pea, and she can improve her sewing skills while doing something she loves (she doesn't have to do any of those boring embroidery samplers that I used to have to sew!)

The Blah
While I love the pretty pink storage bag, it's a drawstring bag and it's not very secure. I wish the kit came with a second, smaller, more secure storage item like a box with a snap-shut lid, so you can store the more dangerous items like the pins and scissors.


The Bottom Line
