To celebrate the Oscars, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has been hosting a month-long "31 Days of Oscar" festival, which features 360 Academy Award-nominated and winning movies. To make things more fun, each movies they're showing is linked to the next movie in the lineup through a shared actor or actress. For example, tonight's 8PM movie is "The Diary of Anne Frank" with Richard Beymer and Shelley Winters, the 11:15PM movies is "Alfie" with Shelley Winters and Denholm Elliott, the 1:15AM movie is "A Room with a View" with Denholm Elliott and Judi Dench, and so on.
Figuring out the links a la "Six Degrees of Separation" (or even better, "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", since the series starts and ends with a movie starring Kevin Bacon) might just keep you glued to the tv until Oscar night. Best of all, it's all uncut and commercial-free, which means you get to see all the good bits that those corny old censors have decided are too much for your delicate sensibilities, and you don't have to see lame car commercials that last longer than the movie itself.
You can find the complete 31 Days of Oscar schedule on their website. Happy viewing!

The Third Man, which is one of the great movies of all time. Orson Welles' entrance is a delight!
ReplyDeleteI was glad to see "The French Connection" in the lineup. It's not available for rental around here for some weird reason, so I watched the HECK outta that movie!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I Tweeted this as well - Twitter name glitterninja.
ReplyDeleteSo many I'd love to see, but most probably THE UNIVITED (1944)--a great and criminally under-known ghost story starring Ray Milland.
